For some inexplicable reason, PC people seem to have the odd idea that Macs are only good for graphics. A little reasoning here. Graphics are the single most operation intensive procedure any computer can perform, and Macs do it well because they have serious process operation ability. All that other junk a PC does, a Mac does without even breathing hard.

Let's address a few cherished myths from the MS Fanboy club.

Having a UNIX BSD base, OSX is a far more stable and secure system, and not prone to viruses. And for those who still insist on quoting that tired old myth about market share and viruses: UNIX varients are the most widely used operating systems outside the home, yet they suffer none of what windows suffers.

Apple does NOT make all the software for Macs. They make the operating system, the iLife suite (bundled with Macs), and a couple of others. I use Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign Dreamweaver, Acrobat Pro), MS Office (Word, Excel, etc), and a smattering of other apps for my work. It is true you can't walk into Best Buy and find Mac Apps, but you can go into Fry's, and of course any Apple Store. Mac apps are available online by the thousands.

I have the same apps at home, plus a few dozen games, including the best sellers.

They're very easy to upgrade, and come with pretty good hardware out of the box. The kind of set-up most PCs upgrade to. If you were to configure a Dell to the same specs as an iMac or MacPro, and add comparable software that Apple includes, that Dell would cost a little more than the Mac. You get what you pay for.

Peripherals are plug and play, and yes, Mac's come with multi-function mice now.

They're dead easy to upgrade, and there are hundreds of periferals and upgrades available for many, many companies.

Macs can have multiple operating systems loaded. You can be running in native OSX, and run windowze through parallels (we have one at work doing this) so we can used the ONE PC app we need, that isn't available for a Mac (Publisher).

I've used both systems. Windowze is clunky and bloated by comparison. A pain in the cyber-butt.

Apple innovates.
MS Imitates.

If your MacBook is based on the Intel chipset, then you could run either MacOS or Windows. If you add some third-party software, you can even run them both at the same time. Why would you want Windows? Well, the only reason I like having it is for some very specialized programs I have to run. Others might have a very big investment in Windows software they can't just throw out. Others may just prefer Windows. Vista has a firewall (as does XP). It has more aggresive security settings than its predecessors. Many people find it quite annoying and turn it down to where it's rather pointless. As far as virus issues, Macs aren't immune, but they've always had a better security model than Windows from the start. Vista is about as bad XP in this regard...you still have to have some third-party virus protection to be reasonably safe. The best machine I've ever had for running Windows is my current iMac. Apple really went above and beyond supplying the necessary drivers to make XP work nicely on Apple hardware.

I like Window better. I thought I liked Macs better when I was introduced to them in college because of the color, graphics, and sound but I still like Windows better. It's cooler and easier to navigate.

I assume you are talking about the efficiency of system resources. In that case, it depends on which version of OSX or Windows, as both are becoming steadily more inefficient with each new release.

Vista is probably the most inefficient OS right now. To use most of the features you need 2GBs of RAM, and to run smoothly you need 4GBs. This is a real problem because most versions of Vista are 32bit which doesn't allow more than 4GBs of RAM, and won't even support the full 4GBs when installed. Good job Microsoft!

The next least efficient is OSX (any version). While the user interface is nice and pretty, it is a huge drain on system resources– and there is no way to turn most of it off. In addition, the last couple versions have been really buggy; program crashes (especially Photoshop), system freezing and lagging are common complaints. There are also compatibility issues with older Power PC Macs. A 2 year old MacBook can't even run Leopard.

Windows XP is the most efficient of the widely-used operating systems. A properly installed Windows XP system uses hardly any resources, and will kill a comparable Mac in benchmark testing.

Almost any Linux system is far more efficient than any of the above, but Linux won't run most mainstream programs at all, and requires a bit of know-how to get it running.

As to what OS is my favorite, I'd have to go with Windows XP x64. It is 64bit, based on Windows Server 2003 (one of the most stable platforms ever) and there are absolutely no viruses written for the system (and as much as Mac users want to believe there are no Mac viruses, they are wrong; I have personally seen a few of them). Troubleshooting is much easier in Windows, and Windows also allows for more hardware options which is a must for building your own computers.

It is possible to build your own Mac now that they use all PC hardware, but it can be a real pain to do. Not all hardware is compatible, it's sometimes necessary to compile your own kext files (drivers) to make it function properly, and OSX are not friendly to this process.

So, overall I think Windows XP is the better OS.

It depends on what you want to do.

Windows:
Game play (huge variety of software)
School
Engineering work (huge variety of software)
Graphics (huge variety of software)
Video editing (huge variety of software)
Easy to fix at home

Mac:
Game play (limited variety of software)
School
Engineering work (limited variety of software)
Graphics (limited variety of software)
Video editing (limited variety of software)
Difficult to fix at home

Don't get into the hype how Macs dont get viruses and etc. If this was true they would not have a repair center. True it difficult to get a virus not because Mac is well built, it is because any software written for a Mac is very well controlled by Apple computers. Also the media play back software is really limited, compared to what you can get for Windows. Macs are good computers but this does not mean Windows is bad. They are both great but both have advantages and limitations it all depends on what you want to use them for.

That depends on what purposes/usages are you using it for. Windows is basically for normal usage but it is not really a powerhouse to do heavy multimedia tasks like video and audio editting (let say if you are a professional video editor or sound engineer and so forth where you need extra power to do those tasks).

Mac is better when it comes to designs. But nowadays you can actually get a mac that runs on windows if you think it is hard for you to adapt to a new operating system which totally different from Windows (if you were used to Windows and never used Mac).

Basically, most of the computers are running on Windows like almost 90-95% and you can easily get many softwares and games that are compatible with Windows. It is actually not a major problem nowadays since most software producers and game companies produce softwares and games that are compatible for both operating systems. But I personally think, it is way easier to find those for Windows.

Windows and Mac started off from the same team/company. They both basically are having the same idea to make our life better and easier. Whichever you think is better is up to your own standards and on what terms you are looking for in a computer. So be it if it is the design then it means you cannot have really good specifications (unless you are willing to invest extra money for it if you want both). Both actually are hardly can exist simultaneously. So actually I think both have their own pros and cons. It just depends on which perspectives you are looking at.
