When you have 2 monitors operating from 1 computer, what software (if any) is required to operate them separately?

I needed a bigger monitor both for desk space reasons and deteriorating eyesight, so I got a nice 22" Samsung SyncMaster 22wm monitor. After plugging in the machine and installing the default driver, the images on the screen are stretched laterally. I'm working off an older machine, a Compaq Presario 6000 apparently with a graphics element from S3, their registry name S3 Graphics PRoSavageDDR. After running a utility to view further details on its graphics capability, I take it that this device supports AGP v.2.0, 4x speeds, 66 MHz PCI. The GPU ID is 5333 8D04 (for what that's worth). Anyway, I'm wondering if buying some fancy graphics card or something will solve the problem. Do I have to junk the older computer? (I'm in the process of getting new RAM memory for this one, and have everything installed on it, and it runs XP okay, so I'm reluctant to have to start over again.) Any thoughts on what my strategies might best be at this point? Thanks in advance, you savants!

To the digital painters out there:
What kind of monitor do you have? Recently I got an LCD monitor but I find that painting with it is so much different. For instance, if I sit low on my chair the colours appear darker than when I look down on it. I find this very annoying and I'm afraid my art might come over differently to other people with different monitor settings.
Is it best to have a CRT monitor when painting?
Please give me your opinion.
Thanks.

On Friday there was a surge in which the power came on and went of several times, about 5 or six and now when I turn on the pc I can hear it running but there is nothing coming up on the monitor. I even used a different monitor to see if that was the problem but still nuthing. Could it be that the surge fried my video card?

It almost forms like diagnal horizontal lines. Sometimes after it does this.. the computer will even restart its self. Sometimes it wont even start up after this happens.. the screen will remain black and my fan wont come on even though I get my power light - no beeping. It's about 2 years old and has been doing this for a few weeks. It's not the monitor as it does the same when I swap it. The video card is part of the mother board. It doesn't seem to do it during any particular event-completely random. I'm on xp if that matters at all.

Hi, I am planning on buying a computer monitor soon. The one I am going to buy has DVI and HDCP plugs. Am I able to play my ps3 on it, if so how? Also, there is another computer screen that I might buy that has a HDMI port. What is the difference between HDMI and HDCP, some people say that you can play your ps3 on either ports but I have no idea. please respond soon.
Thank you!

I have tried putting the volume high to clicking the picture of the speaker @ the bottom right corner on my main screen. To check if they are all on. I see the green level going up & down but nothing is coming out of the speakers. They were working fine yesterday.

I have a 37" High Definition Television with a 1080i (1920 x 1080 Pixel) Display, it has a slot for a male VGA component and as does my PC, is it possible to link my PC and my HDTV together so my HDTV is getting used as a monitor and still have it show in HD (i.e. Have my computers display show up in 1080i resolution), or would I need to lower the resolution, use a different cable or just not do it altogether? And also, HDMI cables are NOT an option, my computer and graphic card doesnt have a slot for them, I awate a reply, thank you.
