After you go to Control Panel/Display/Settings and set for higher than 1024x768 your monitor should switch to the higher res and ask you if you want to keep it. Then you click yes and you should be done.

If your screen just goes black after you set to the higher resolution, and after a few seconds of waiting it just goes back to the old resolution it means your monitor doesn't accept the higher resolution. It is most likely a problem with your monitor drivers, although most monitors nowadays should naturally allow more than 1024x768.

To update your monitor drivers go to the monitor manufacturer website and look for support/drivers. For example if you have a viewsonic monitor go to www.viewsonic.com or do a websearch for "viewsonic drivers". Then install the new drivers and try again.

Looks like your graphics card and screen drivers are uninstalled. Download the according drivers from your newbook's manufacturer's website, install them, restart the PC, and then you should be able to set the resolution as you wish.
