I have a 37" High Definition Television with a 1080i (1920 x 1080 Pixel) Display, it has a slot for a male VGA component and as does my PC, is it possible to link my PC and my HDTV together so my HDTV is getting used as a monitor and still have it show in HD (i.e. Have my computers display show up in 1080i resolution), or would I need to lower the resolution, use a different cable or just not do it altogether? And also, HDMI cables are NOT an option, my computer and graphic card doesnt have a slot for them, I awate a reply, thank you.

I'm fairly certain my GFX card can reach 1920 x 1080 pixels, I'll be more specific... Can I at least REACH that resolution, although not in HD is it possible to have that resolution on my HDTV and work?

a 1080i tv is not 1920x1080. that resolution is 1080p. you have a 720p hdtv. yes you can still do that. the maximum resolution of ur 720p tv is 1366x768. run a vga cable from your computer to the vga port on your tv.

unlike what other ignorant people(who should not be talking about things they dont know about) said, a vga cable is capable of displaying hd. all computer resolutions are hd, and most people use vga to connect to a monitor.

the people that answered this question so far know nothing about the topic

I never heard of a high resolution VGA cable. My old 1280x1024 HDTV ready 4:3 monitor (which looks the same using VGA or DVI) has more pixels than my 1366x768 HDTV (which works with my laptop using a plain old VGA cable). But many newer monitors actually have more pixels than 1920x1080 resolution of 1080p. So it is probably advertising hype for expensive (profitable) cables. For my monitor, a less expensive flexible DVI cable that came with my up converting DVD player actually works better than a more expensive thick stiff Monster cable (which seems to stress the sockets or my video card, making video not work at times). For the DVD player I am now using a $26 Phillips gold plated DVI to HDMI cable that I got some place like Wal-Mart or Target.

Sorry about posting VGA was not capable of HD, I incorrectly assumed that it was not capable since the newer outputs of DVI and HDMI tout that they are the HD outputs.

Jake, however is a bit rude in his correction. Tact is a skill that takes time though, and hopefully he will learn :).

VGA is not capable of HD

You can find many video cards with HD outputs however under the $100 range. NVidia cards are generally the most stable.

Look for a card with DVI or HDMI connections. Video cards that have RGB out are typically a good bit more expensive.

The GeForce 8400 might be a good choice. It should still be under $100 and supports up to 1920x1200 resolution. It has DVI-I, VGA, and HDTV outputs.

U will not get HD graphic for sure, but resolution will depend on yor graphic card support for external monitor and normally it is high

You would get decent graphics using VGA, but not HD quality.
