my hewlett packard laptop screen ran down black. altough I can see the computer starting normally, and the windows open normally too, my LCD screen is dark. What should I do? The repairs would cost a lot but no one can tell me why the screen slowly ran black. Found a post at a forum, this happens sometimes to the screens. Can someone help me or suggest me a solution?

I'm trying to hook up my Phillips 30" lcd to a laptop to watch rugby videos, but the cord I bought at the store says it is designed to work with 17" or smaller. I'm not too picky, but there are a ton of cables online that are cheaper than the one I bought, so if I can get a better cable for less money, I would obviously like to.

I'm looking for cheap and non-damaging. Can't leave scratches, but still gets finger oil off. Maybe something that has anti-static in it... Anyone know if baby wipes work?

My computer monitor freezes very often. There is no problem with the monitor itself, since I have tried replaced with other good monitor and the result is same. I have a integrated AGP.

I have uploaded the picture of frozen screen here.
http://www.geocities.com/vbbaiju/screen_trouble.jpg
Please have a look on it.

Following trouble shooting already done and not successful :

1. Swapped with another Power unit.
2. Swapped with another RAM
3. Had a check of motherboard at repair shop to check the condition of components

Please advise
thanks

I just bought a PCI video card of Trident. After I install it in my pc (window xp), it works fine; but after 5 mins, everything stops and the screen turns into blue and a long message comes out. I remember it shows "the file sgiul50 error"; "drive got stuck in an infinite loop. Problem with the device itself or with the device drive programming the hardware incorrectly. Check hardware device vendor for any driver updates. Beginning dump of physical memory. Physical memory dump complete."
When I restart the computer, the monitor shows nothing until I pull out the video card and plug the monitor back to the monitor board. What does the message mean? How can solve the problem??

I have turned it off and restarted, I've disconnected the entire thing, etc. but still it only blinks on when the power is turned on and then goes blank again. What can cause this, is the monitor beyond repair?

I have a monitor, a 21" CRT monster, that I just LOVE. Recently it has begun to develop a shadow across the bottom quarter of the screen after its been on a bit, sometimes the top as well. I specifiy 'shadow' instead of 'black' because those sections of the monitor don't become impossible to see, its just like they are literally in a dark shadow, you can read through it.

Ive noticed that giving it a good shake or an emotionally satisfying whack on the side makes it temporarily go away, but it always comes back.

What is this shadow caused by? I have a practically non-existant budget so if repair is an option I would like to pursue that, but I know monitor repair is a tricky thing. I am aware certain parts going bad (ie the cathode) make it cheaper to buy a new monitor, but the symptoms make me think this is not that, I just don't know what it is.

Any monitor-wise folks familiar with this shadow effect that can advise? Tossing it is a last resort for me, if even an option

Thanks!
