i have a dell laptop i can burn a cd fine but when i burn a dvd i can only see it on my laptop but not on any dvd player. i use sony dvd-r

I have an HP dv2000 and for some stupid reason, I felt that I had to do a system recovery. Now everytime I turn on my laptop it shows these EXACT words....

Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt:
\system32\hal.dll.
Please re-install a copy of the above file.


Everyone is telling me I need to get a Windows XP install cd but I don't know where I can find one or how much they are!

PLEASE HELP!!!

So i got a laptop for college and its a really cheap 450 dollar compaq presarion laptop.. i've a dual core AMD athlon 64 x2 on it and it runs like 1.73ghz i think.. i wanna overclock it so it runs faster.. i've windows vista and a gig or ram on it although i dunno if either of them have anything to do with overclocking but just mentioning them.. btw i don't wanna kill my laptop so i don't wanna open it up.. if there's like any easy way like messin with the bios r somethin that'd work.. well thanx for any answers guys..

by what i can see from nvidia's website, the 8m series notebook video cards are supposed to have 512 of memory and 128 bit processing power.

the apple store only has 128 and 256 megabytes of memory.

is apple trying to cheat us out again? or did they have some deal with nvidia to sell cheaper cards on the mobos.

can anyone explain why they aren't the upgraded cards? it would be a lot better since it is supposed to be a macbook PRO. i rally want to get one but i dont understand why they dont have the real cards to let it do what it is supposed to do. Nvidia makes great cards and the 8600 itself is amazing but apple is going cheap or something.

maybe its an old version and they havent caught up, but they really need to wuit thinking about the money and give the users what they pay for in a high end laptop!

What do you guys think?

Im about to reformat a compaq evo N600c and do a clean install of xp, b/c there's alot of viruses on it and i allready messed up the registry, would i need to load any drivers for it??? Ive done alot of work beofre on desktops but never any on laptops do u think if i reformated my my compaq evo N600c and put xp home on it i would need to go download any other drivers for it, i've never had to do that on any of the desktops that i have owned

My laptop which is currently running windows XP home edition no longer recognises my DVD drive in my computer. It spins a disc when one is inserted but will not run it. There is power going to the drive as the drive opens and spins. In Device Manager my DVD drive shows a yellow '!' symbol. The DVD drive is a 'TSSTcorp CD/DVDW TSL632D'. tried uninstalling and reinstalling but does not work. when going to properties it says 'Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39)'

Can anyone please help?

I wont ask for a specific question cause many of u r going to tell me that its a matter of choice, however, on ur opinion which processor works better on windows based system and at wich point are they independent of any other specifications:

I've had my laptop 2 years now and when i first got it an accident happened where something heavy fell on the keys and 2 keys came off. They still worked but were tricky to press properly. Now the rubber things underneath have split and they wont work at all. 2 other keys are slightly wobbly as well although they do work. I am going to uni soon so will need full use of my laptop, before i only ever used it at home so just used a standard pc keyboard and plugged it in, but now i will need to take the laptop with me and i wont be able to lug a sperate keyboard around as well.

I would probably need to get a completely new keyboard, but i have no idea how. Do i take it to a pc shop? It is an IBM thinkpad. I have found the certain keyboard on ebay but i wouldnt know how to fix it and i really dont want to in case i break it. Any advice? Does it cost alot?

Is it necessary to get the extended warranty on a Sony Vaio laptop? I had a really bad experience with a Toshiba Satellite where having the extended warranty saved me over $1800 (I'm not exaggerating). I don't think that's a common thing, but what do you think about extended warranties on laptops, specifically Sony's?

I'm purchasing a Notebook so I can actually be around the family while I play games, rather than a hermit in my room. However, I want the best gaming laptop I can afford, and I'm not a fan of Intel, so I'm going with AMD.

Now, AMD has released Turion. I don't know anything about it other than it saves battery life, but does that mean it's not as powerful as Athlon?

Please help, I'm a heavy gamer trying to build a laptop from HP, and I don't know if I should choose Turion or Athlon for my processor.

Keep in mind I'll be gaming the entire time.

I've had my laptop going on two years now and its always been used for Internet games and browsing but now it won't even connect. I can access the Internet fine on my desktop so its not my ISP and both my wireless connections for the laptop say they are connected and the strength is good and excellent on each. Any one have any ideas on whats wrong or how I can fix it?

my laptop is cluttered with junk due to the fact we have had to rely on it while waiting for a desktop to arrive. I would like to clean all the clutter off but don't know where to start or what to take off. is there a way to simplify this and restore it back to factory settings as if it were sent from the company? Also i had asked the question about the videos not loading on my msn page and cbs.com but able to view utube etc. Nothing anyone suggested worked, it still gives me that Internet explorer needs to shut down speech, i don't know how to go to my favorites and find those links anyone suggest i delete. I know where my favorites are but i don't see the links they suggest i delete(adult links?) . I tried to download mozilla and it froze up and wouldn't let me. I know when ever i active x is needed, i click yes and it freezes as well. all issues i hope are resolved by returning to factory settings or if someone has better ideas, please give them to me. THANKS

well my life was just screwed...wen i say screwed i mean screwed...literally this trip has been a disaster..im heading off to go to college and then miss most of my connecting flights due to AA not carrying ppl on time--this happens way too frequent-newaysssss then i accidentally left my laptop in the train and then when i check the trains like as soon as they came back it was GONE!!!yeah lots more things happened but this isnt the point my point is i had like picturesof me on my computer right and also pics of my friends so like im really worried now that some sick freak out there who stole a STUDENTS LAPTOP could put my pics on sites and frig my life up ...CAN THEY STEAL MY IDENTITY?????Has this happened to anyone i mean rite now i feel real bad cus my pics r on there but i did have a password but then again the person can easily go thru that if he knows what to do....Neways i had to buy a laptop same day ----well next day actually cuz i had to overnight so yh anyadvice

The sound on my laptop keeps coming and going I get it back sometimes and at other times it is just gone. I can hear it if I plug in earphones but not anyother way for now any ideas? This is a toshiba. All the audio controls are on nothing is muted. Sometimes it comes back loud and clear after I clean it up think it is a virus?

The power cord and battery are brand new but the charge light is not coming on. The power cord light comes on so I know it's good and the battery was charged when I got it so I know that's not it. I called Dell and they said it was probably a hardware problem. Would like other opinons. The laptop is 3 and a half yrs old. Thanks !

When i use my laptop for long periods of time i will normally grab my big headphones and insert the pin into the earphone socket or on other occations i will position my portable radio up close on a table surface insert a audio disc listening to my music through the headphones.I normally work on my laptop typing up letters or just browsing on the internet in close range of my notebook with my earphones situated in standard position.Will the close range of the magnets within the headphones cause any malfuntions to arise with the metal material inside the notebook.
