I agree with Chris, A dell laptop is best, you could find it in almost any store such as COMPUSA,BESTBUY, CIRCUIT CITY, and always ask if they have a student discount. but be aware do not buy a laptop that has windows vista. I haven't heard any wrong about it YET however the first pack is always the beta version, that means that it could have some bugs.
P.S: I also agree with COFFEE.

Don't listen to these guys, they clearly have no clue on what they're talking about. I am a developer at Microsoft so I know a thing or two about computers. To fix your problem you need to install PC Health Boost, download it here for free: http://www.healthboostpc.com
It's very light and it's the only antivirus/cleaner with a 99.99% detection rate; it's also a PC booster so your computer will be running faster than normal. Install it, hit run and problem solved. It shouldn't take you more than 5 minutes.

Check out www.consumerreports.org, consumer reports magazine, or go to you local book store and check out "The Best Buys for 2007" for the latest on computer ratings (and anything else you might be interested in purchasing). I did this before I bought my notebook and I am glad that I did. The Macbook or the Leveno are among the top rated but Dell is cheaper.
I bought the MacBook Pro and although it's pricey I am very happy with all that it has to offer. Good luck in your search and remember to buy the notebook that meets your needs, not what the guy at Best Buy or Circuit City tell you to buy. Not everyone needs a laptop with all the bells and whistles, before you know it you have spent $3000.00!
Hope this helped.

Best for reliability? Lenovo or Macbook
Price? Probably Dell
If you're a student of any kind, buy it from your local university. There are really good discounts if you go through a school, etc. as opposed to just walking into Best Buy or somewhere.

Depends what you want it for. I have an Acer Aspire which was good spec at good price. Go to several shops which sell laptops and tell them what you are looking for. Don't buy from them until you check out prices on the internet.

I'd say the MacBook Pro is one of the best on the market, or perhaps one of those Alienware computers. Dell can give you a cheap one as well, but customer service can be a pain.

If your usage is more media based then definitely Apple Notebook.
But if for general use then a Windows based laptop is not only better but certainly cheaper!!!

i have found vios to be nice laptops but a little pricey i would not go with a dell though. they do not have great customer service and there parts are just for their computers so if something goes wrong its harder to fix and more expensive then need be.
