by what i can see from nvidia's website, the 8m series notebook video cards are supposed to have 512 of memory and 128 bit processing power.

the apple store only has 128 and 256 megabytes of memory.

is apple trying to cheat us out again? or did they have some deal with nvidia to sell cheaper cards on the mobos.

can anyone explain why they aren't the upgraded cards? it would be a lot better since it is supposed to be a macbook PRO. i rally want to get one but i dont understand why they dont have the real cards to let it do what it is supposed to do. Nvidia makes great cards and the 8600 itself is amazing but apple is going cheap or something.

maybe its an old version and they havent caught up, but they really need to wuit thinking about the money and give the users what they pay for in a high end laptop!

What do you guys think?

i agree with the first answer... its apple.

and the second one, it actually saves battery power to have more memory in a system/ video card.
it uses less clock cycles on the processor and they wont have to use as much... 256 mb of ram is average for a notebook, but with apple, you have to dish out an extra 200 for that or go with the 17 inch one.

who would ever buy a video card with 128 mb of ram? especially on a 8600 series or any 8 series for that matter.
apple would know that 512 would be so much better for these notebooks, they are just going cheap, which i wish they didnt do.

anyways, microsoft (before they released the xbox 360) added an extra 256 mb of ram on the system (for a total of 512mb's) to give their customers a better game playing experience!

now think about apple coming out with a game console (i bet they are already looking into that) and tell me what they would do?

"im sure 256 can handle most games that are out now, and they could purchase the pro version for just a couple hundred more!"

its apple trying to stay in the business, without letting it go. I do feel bad for them, cuase they are competing with microsoft and all these other computer businesses, but i always though of apple bieng a "professional" business.

i dont know, i guess when their os's are released for the pc version, they will start making cheaper computers!... or at least more expesive everything else!

Its Apple. What do you expect. THis is nothing new. They did not sell the same 7800GT's in their G5's either. Thats wat kills me about you apple fanbois, ITs the same hardware that PC's have just more expensive. Rock on Apple!

Vendors who build systems have access to OEM components that don't always get sold directly to consumers. In this case, Apple could have made a deal to purchase X number of cards for their production of the MacBook Pro laptops.

Maybe Apple is sticking with the lower end card to keep power consumption down to prolong battery life for the typical user.

By the way, I have the desktop version of the 8600 GT (over clocked edition) with 256 MB and it is a great card for the price. I'm actually looking at purchasing a laptop in the next 2 months so I may have to check out Apple's offering.
