Yup, that is SLOW for such a powerful set up. It is very likely that you have too many startups that load when you boot. Try disabling the unnecessary ones in msconfig (Run msconfig).

Too sluggish. verify despite anti-virus application is on it. I guess that's set to income the disk thoroughly at boot. as much as you no remember if or not it is needed. i could say that's not. in case you have no virus now, and you're careful to not get one, then there only isn't one there the following day.

If you have Windows Vista, this is normal as Vista bogs down even a powerful machine like yours. If you have Windows XP, that seems too slow.

Since you said it was a new computer, its pretty much would have to be crap ware. You will have to uninstall them to get your system running at top speed. It's a pain in the butt to remove.
