Try DVD+R, some players won't work with DVD-R.

Well if you are burning a movie with a DVD player format on it. it will work on your dvd player. But if you are just burning files like a .mpg or .jpg, .psd or anything like that than it wont work on your dvd player. but will work on any computer with a dvd reader. Make note that i listed a video format file ext (.mpg) I have tried this as well but realized that it just doesn't work that way. the DVD-r usually works for me. i have found that it is the more compatible with DVD players

NOTE: If this is a NEC dvd burner (model 6650A) then you can download a firmware upgrade from the dell website to make it DVD-R and DVD+R.

Most new dvd players use DVD +R media. Try that 1st.
