I recently spilled water on the keyboard of my laptop. Inspite of a prolongued spell with the hair dryer it seems 'b`````#####erd up' completely. Knew it would happen sometime. Tell me, can it possibly be salvaged or can I safely consider it scrap. Most things done with mouse seem OK but keyboard functions haywire. Writing this with on screen keyboard. Any hope.
Thanks, Paul.

I really want this laptop and after babysitting this summer, will have enough money to buy it. It's not like $580 isnt a reasonable price, becasue it is, but I just want to to make sure that the same product isnt out there (just as good) but cheaper.

ok, once apon a time, I had a virus that corrupted my system, I took my laptop into a computer repair guy (apparently not a good one) the computer seemed to be fixed. Later on I notice for some reason I could not get updates. Then realized that my copy of xp could not be verrified. Which means that dirty b*stard somehow deleted my identification/registration code for the xp version I was using, and now I also have virus', spyware, addware. basically if there is an bug I've probably got it. and due to the fact I don't have a registerable operating system I would like to purchase one. Hoping to nab all the problems in the butt, I have already purchased a full version of mcaffey (sorry for spelling errors) now the question is what operating system is worth the trouble. ( also run 2 xbox 360's on a network with my computer so I would like to be able to run either, media center or vista so I can play movies off the computer through the network) thanks

I recently had the mobo in my desktop go up, and I am now considering a laptop as a replacement. Ideally, I'd like to get rid of my desktop altogether.

I mostly use what you could call the normal stuff on a PC-- iTunes, Abiword, Nero etc. Not a lot of video games, and the ones I play are fairly old (and ran fine on my GeForce 4 MX 440).

My major concern is that I also do some video editing/ripping, mostly with Handbrake.

Even for my desktop (3.06 P4, 1GB RAM) this was a pretty heavy load. My CPU usage would float around the high 90's. The laptop I'm considering will have a better processor of course (either Core 2 Duo, or Turion 64 X2), and at least 1GB of RAM, but it overheating is my main concern. I have never owned a laptop so I'm wondering ih can stand up to this kind of abuse.

Do you guys think I should go for it, or should I just replace my old desktop mobo (and slightly upgrade the processor and RAM) and keep it moving?

Suggestions? Past experience?

I have a Compaq presario 1500 laptop. The mother board is fried. What I need to find out is what type of mother boards will be compatable for the replacement. I don't really care about it being a brand name, just reliable. I am on a budget and don't want to spend allot of money sending it to Compaq for repair. I have someone who is able to do the work, but not 100% sure what options I have other than buying a compaq mother board for the 1500 laptop (if any). Most repair places won't really give me a straight answer. Also any reliable resources for finding a new or refurbished mother board at a decent price would be helpful!

My laptop is not getting any power through the ac adaptor. I have 2 different ac power supplies. One is the original and the other is a universal one. Both don't work but the universal one has a blue light turned on whenever power is going through it. The blue light turns on but the light on my laptop that shows you when its being charged isn't on. The jack is kind of loose but thats how its always been and its worked before. Also my battery is new and works fine but its running out of power and i cant recharge it for abvious reasons. Any know how to fix this problem?
