ok, once apon a time, I had a virus that corrupted my system, I took my laptop into a computer repair guy (apparently not a good one) the computer seemed to be fixed. Later on I notice for some reason I could not get updates. Then realized that my copy of xp could not be verrified. Which means that dirty b*stard somehow deleted my identification/registration code for the xp version I was using, and now I also have virus', spyware, addware. basically if there is an bug I've probably got it. and due to the fact I don't have a registerable operating system I would like to purchase one. Hoping to nab all the problems in the butt, I have already purchased a full version of mcaffey (sorry for spelling errors) now the question is what operating system is worth the trouble. ( also run 2 xbox 360's on a network with my computer so I would like to be able to run either, media center or vista so I can play movies off the computer through the network) thanks

Vista is slick and easy to use, for a newb. I can say from experience, because I have a vista laptop and a Xp desktop. The Xp is more familiar, although the vista looks amazing. some features of the vista are easy to use. but you need a good graphics card and processer. If you have a newer comp, get vista. if your running an older comp, go with Xp. I personally like vista a lot, except when i have to find something.

Yes i understand how depressing this is for you.. dont you have the CD of Windows XP?
Well i think that you should go for Windows XP (Media Centre) because i had Vista and found it so depressing.. it was the worst operating system that Microsoft have ever made..
If you want your PC to look like Vista then you can download a programme that makes the OS look like Vista.. But to be honest that is all Microsoft have done.. added a few extra feautres.. but nothing that XP Cant do..
I hope this helps.. if you want more information please do not hesitate to contatc me!
All the best.

um, the shown fact that fifty% of drivers are not allowed. the extensive load that it places on the hardware that's significant to game enthusiasts. the shown fact that there is little substitute from xp to vista (with the exception of it finding quite) in spite of the shown fact that it may value as much as $seven-hundred AUD the way it double tests each little thing. in case you attempt to repeat some information it is going to ask you 4 situations "are you particular?" in some kind or yet another jealousy that dx10 is in simple terms on vista. how particularly some previous classes refuse to artwork the dislike of invoice gates how vista demands a great number of ram for not something how there is not any 5.a million sound (may be fastened, yet open AL can restore it) the frames lost in video games, as much as 25fps lost and that i does not assume you to be waiting to make vista sluggish in simple terms via establishing particularly some abode windows' very own classes interior the keep. enable me wager, you ran solitaire 20 situations? oh jeez, like that would desire to sluggish any notebook down. each little thing you reported is commonplace. perhaps you do not do something greater suitable than browse cyberspace and be conscious technique so perhaps you have not any concept of what vista is(n't) able to yet everybody will bypass to vista quickly so it is not significant, even i will finally

your anti-virus and spyware programs will run on your computer, however the only thing you won't be able to do is update the windows with the automatic updates. If you have the recovery disks, then you can do a repair of your windows.
personally I wouldn't switch to Vista yet, there are still alot of problems and software conflicts with it

Your PC is a laptop. If it didn't come with it's own RESTORE CD, it was on the hard drive and the computer repair guy trashed it when he installed an illegal copy of XP.
Call your laptop manufacturer (or go to the web site) and order a replacement CD.
Ask about upgrading to Vista if available.

well it comes down to this. vista is new really new. and its got bugs. but like every other OS from Microsoft they will be fixed. i am running vista ultimate. its great i love it to death. but i have had problems with incompatible drivers and some programs that i really don't mined not havening any more. and with the media center it makes working with your 360 like easy. i hooked one up to my network just to see how it all works. it was quite interesting. but for now if you want to play it safe and fallow what every one is say and bash a good OS then stay with xp. i have been using Vista since it came out and i love it. its simpler and nicer looking than xp. but its up to you.

If your system can handle it, I'd get Vista Home Premium, it comes with MCE. While Vista isn't the most stable OS on the market it will get better and more companies are creating drivers for their products. Check out http://newegg.com they had Vista HP for $105 the other day.

Vista is cool, sightly underwhelming to begin with but still cool - installed it the other week as i had been running XP Pro, only gripe is that 7.3 catalyst caused a bsod, so now running with 7.2 which seems fine i must say once you get used using it im not turning back.

Well right now I'd go with XP. Vista still has a LOT of bugs that need to be worked out.

You are safer sticking to XP, you can use it to repair your original version. This saves you losing the files on your machine. Of course, if you reported that the shop has used a illegal copy on your machine, MS may provide one free, but it might take a while to happen.
