I have a laptop that I do not have a internal dvd drive but an external. when vista is installing will it delete the drivers for my external in the process making it impossible to complete the installation?

it is somewhat older, it did come with a cd drive that can be pulled out and a floppy put in its place, it is a dell latitude (dont remember exact specs) I had the problem before upgrading to xp, the system deleted the drivers for the external dvd drive while upgrading, had to take it to a computer guy to complete the instalation. guess it may be time to break down and buy the internal dvd drive cartrige thingy.

It will need the drive to be bootable to work. Most externals will not. On some laptops the floppy and dvd drives are interchangeable, without knowing your model I can't advise you of this. Also this must be a relatively old machine to have no internal dvd or cd, Vista will wipe out it's memory, it needs masses (2 G is really required).

You could do it with an external DVD drive, but installing Vista on anything is not wise, as you will have compatability issues.

in case you could boot that far, this is not likely the no longer easypersistent. Your motherboard won't have a 'decrease of 500gb consistent with slot', motherboard do no longer impose that form of decrease. the only concern to demonstrate screen out for is getting SATA or IDE. carry you laptop to a qualified professional (no longer bestbuy or Futureshop) and that they're going to attempt upkeep. by employing your submit, i can inform you recognize little or no relating to the workings of a working laptop or laptop, so do no longer attempt to repair the subject your self, no remember how clever you think of you're.

Depends, on how you boot to your External drive
If you boot with the Vista CD from the External Drive Directly, then your just lucky, it will just be fine.... the process will continue.

Yes, and no Windows Vista will still be able to use your external DVD drive (providing it is USB or Firewire).

Do not buy Vista from anywhere but your laptop manufacturer's web site. They include all drivers for your laptop.
