Add-ons - February 2007

Eager to reward my daughter for her good school grades, we gave her a brand new laptop which works great and also a brand new There lies the problem. I saw INTEL 3.2 GHz and went for it to only to find that the stupid PC is USELESSLY slow. I do mean USELESS.... Absolutely useless. It takes ages to do anything !! It is an INTEL 'Cerelon' and came with only 256 of memory and so my question is: Will the installation of 1GB of memory bring the PC to normal speed ? Will it solve the problem ? i am upgrading my p.c in the spare room,at the momoent it has a athlon 3200+,1gb ram and a nvidia geforce 6200(128mb)
i have a budget of £100 to spend on it and have found a 1gb corsair ddr3200 memory module for £51,and to compliment it a geforce 6600gt(128mb) for £46
at the moment my memory configuration is bank 1)512mb 2)256mb 3)256mb = 1gb
so i will take out one of the 256mb modules and replace with the 1gb module giving a system memory of 1792mb
adding this improvemt with the geforce 6600gt is this a worthwile upgrade considering the budget and the processor it has
any feedback will be usefull

After putting a full pint glass on my PC cup holder, it snapped (a real mess). I looked in PC world, but some kid just said they didn't sell them. The one I have is an electric model, where the holder comes out of a drawer marked 'DVD-ROM' when you press the button. Is that the brand I should look for?

I have one computer hooked up and working, now I can't get the second one to work...there are two open spots on the back so I hooked the two phone lines from second computer, but it still doesn't work ...what am I doing wrong? It is a Linksys wireless-G 2.4 router

as i know it is not just turned off. what is it prossessing. i know if you have 2 sli or crossfire cards 1 is physics 1 is rendering. so what is the graphics chip on the motherboard doing A. when there is one gpu card and 2. if there are two cards, if that matters. also i know that if three cards are applied that 1 is physics 1 is to half and 1 is bottom have of screen so what is it if there is four cards does it make it a three part screen or 2 physics one for each half of screen(not likely i think). i would like a link to explain some of this if you could please. i have been to ati.amd.com and nvidia.com also instead of 3 and 4+ cards howcome they dont just open more power to 1 pci-x(now) and just add more chips sets to 1 card as many gamers would prefer to buy 1 card as to more than one(just a thought). guess there is not enough room on 1 card.

I just got a sony dvd burner on ebay and I plugged everything in. It came with a installation cd but It has so many files so I don't know which one to install. these are the files on the cd. PCI to USB 2.0 4+1, 3s, alcor, ALi, bluetooth, cmd, cmedia, Davicom, FreeDik, Genesys, ITE, KTC, MosChip, myson, nec, Neodio, VIA, NetMOS, Phison, Prolific, Realtek, Sigmatel, Silicon_Image.

I have just bought a creative 5.1 Inspire P580 surround sound system and a Creative Sound Blaster Live Digital 5.1 sound card (SB0100) and, eventually got it to work!!1 But I cannot get the centre speaker to work. I did a test on all the speakers and the centre one was fine. But if i play music it wont work, or play music direct from the internet (youtube) it wont work then either!!

I have been into speaker setting and adjusted it to 5.1 surround sound, but still the centre speaker will not work.

on the front of my computer, i have slots to put in memory cards. the card that i have is the smallest (physical) card available, it's the micro sd transflash 2gb. it came with an adapter, the adapter fits into the mmc/sd slot on my computer. it's not recognizing it though (when i look in "my computer", it doesn't show up) the small card works in my tmobile dash but i've decided that for editing purposes, it would be easier for me to just put the card directly into the computer (i'm being very picky about how my music is displayed and i'm sure i want to do it this way...let's leave it at that)...so it's not working. i think the problem is that the driver associated with that slot is for the mmc card. i'm just wanting to know who agrees with me so i can finally give up until i get the driver. and if you do agree, where could i get that driver? please don't just guess, i know a lot about this stuff but i haven't been in a situation where i needed an adapter like that before. thank you.

I just installed a new HDD in my comp. When I go to my computer the drive is not there but it is in device manager. Also on boot up if my CD drives are plugged in - the computer wont boot - but if i unplug them it will. any suggestions for either prob?
