You don't say what the connector type is. If its USB and its not detected/working then chances are there is a problem with the headset. I havn't looked at Vista, but check that the mic isn't muted in the sound control panel.

If its not USB then you will have to put two plugs in the PC; one for the sound and the other for the microphone.

skiblade5,

If the computer doesn't 'see' the microphone, then it doesn't matter what the volume setting is.
I don't know about Vista, but on other windows systems, I've plugged mono mics in and got that response. If you're mic is mono you can get an adapter (to stereo) at RadioShack or other electronics store. You should only need one (for the mic plug).
If your mic is stereo, then try a different mic if you can.
If the computer refuses more than one stereo mic, then it's probably something in the computer (perhaps a driver).
You'll need to ask a pro somewhere.

The diaphragm in a microphone and a headphone speaker are very similar in layout, the in trouble-free terms aspect that differs is signal bypass and the flexibility of the diaphragm to flow freely. you are able to record through a speaker into the mic enter of a pc. besides the undeniable fact that, the sound high quality will maximum in all probability be terrible to the degree the speaker is enclosed and the rubber troublesome. i'd propose getting a cheapo pc microphone (decrease than 5 money). once you're after the muffled effect you are able to encompass the mic with cotton. some communities placed a lavolier mic in a p.c.. of cigaretts to attempt this yet i do not smoke, or like muffled audio.

usually the headset mic will so sensitive that if it hardly bended or pulled, its wire will cut it piece, try using the same mic with any other system if, work it not the problem with the head set it will the setting of mic control,

if mic control is simply ok try enable the mic boost and try, some time it will make the mic work if, or install sound max audio driver which will clearly mention and show the status or head set condition, it will display and dialog box when any of the connection us removed or replaced back,
