I have aDlink router and wireless adaptor. My pc says the wireless adaptor is connected and the signal strength is excellent, but I cannot connect to the internet. The wireless adaptor works perfectly well when setup on another pc. What is going on here?

How can I find out the IP address of a device connected directly to my computer? Thanks.?

Could someone kindly tell me how I can obtain the IP address of a device connected directly via a standard ethernet cable to this computer. I need to communicate with a LinkSys wireless bridge in order to set it up. I know that the IP of this bridge is somewhere in the range 192.168.1.xx. However I do not know the full address. I have manually assigned a computer IP 192.168.1.10, with a default gateway 192.168.1.1. When I plug in the wireless bridge, an active connection is made between the two computers. BUT, I do not know what the IP of the bridge is. How can I find this out? I can't ping it because I don't have the IP.

why is convert x to dvd not converting my file shared films to dvd for me?

i have windows vista premium and have downloaded some movies, i would like to convert to dvd but the "convert x to dvd" programme is not doing the job, the programme seems to run ok but there is nothing on the disc when i put it in the player, this has also happened on "win avi converter"leading me to think that there is something wrong with the dvd burner or the user lol, any ideas? please reply in easily understandible language as im not particularly computer literate.

My external hard drive stop showing on the USB of desktop.?

My external hard drive was working fine till a few days and suddenly stopped showing on the USB drive of my desktop. I hear some scratch noise (as through something is rotating but getting hit at a certain point as it moves).

When I disconnect & reconnect to the USB, the desktop recognises a mass storage device but nothing happens after that. I am not seeing this device in "my computer" of Windows XP professional. All the other pen drives and other devices are being recognised by the USB. So I feel there is nothing wrong with the USB connection.

Any help? How can I recover my files before I ask anyone to work on it? Thanks

computer randomly crashes!!?

i check the event viewer after a system crash and it comes up with bugcheck 0x1000008e. it shuts down and restarts, no blue screen of death. it randomly happens and sometimes it will crash after it rebooted from a crash. It started about 5 months ago, after having it for 2 months and it is brand new.

any ideas on what the problem could be and any solutions? im not that keen on re-installing windows xp.

What is wrong with my Vista based PC?...?

It takes nearly 2 min to boot up (and a long time to shut down). This Dell Inspiron E1505 is: less than 6 mos old; w/o a lot of software installations; and I've removed most items from auto start up. During boot -up the screen goes black for 10 sec. before the desktop appears. I've run virus and adware runs and found nothing.

Also when I use Internet explorer, the windows opens to odd sizes in different places on the screen (I have made them full size and closed them before use and re-opened, but it hasn't worked).

I have a dell dimension e520. I am trying add a WD Caviar® RE Serial ATA (Raid Edition) WD RE2 500 GB SATA Hard Drives ( WD5000YS ) for extra storage as a second hard drive. Drive (F:) .my 1st hard drive is WD Caviar® SE WD1600JS, so I need some help.Can anybody help??
