Gimp (http://www.gimp.org) is probably the best in the freeware category. It works allot like Photoshop, which I would consider to be the best. All good graphics editors come with a pretty steep learning curve. Get yourself one of the "Teach Yourself" manuals. They won't teach you everything but at least they are a good starting point. If you are really interested in graphics editing, you can probably find a class on the subject at your local community college. Most have specific courses on things like Photoshop, Corel Draw, etc.

Picasa

It's a free basic photo editing program from Google.

If you want something with more features your going to have to pay for Photoshop.

"it doesn't work the way i want it to" is too vague!

Please re-post and tell us exactly what features you need and maybe we can help.
