Could someone kindly tell me how I can obtain the IP address of a device connected directly via a standard ethernet cable to this computer. I need to communicate with a LinkSys wireless bridge in order to set it up. I know that the IP of this bridge is somewhere in the range 192.168.1.xx. However I do not know the full address. I have manually assigned a computer IP 192.168.1.10, with a default gateway 192.168.1.1. When I plug in the wireless bridge, an active connection is made between the two computers. BUT, I do not know what the IP of the bridge is. How can I find this out? I can't ping it because I don't have the IP.

Thanks very much.

Thanks for the information so far. Unfortunately I can't make it use DHCP at the moment, because in order to do this, I have to visit the configuration page by typing the routers IP address into a browser, which I can't do at the moment.

The ip of the bridge is probably 192.168.1.1 (your default gateway). If that doesn't work, download a program called AngryIP
http://www.snapfiles.com/get/angryip.html
This can can your network and will find anything with an IP address. As you know the IP of the computer, you will be able to work out the IP of the Linksys.

on the router there should be a setting, 'automatically assign ip address'. there should be a setting in the wireless card with a similar, if not identical name. set this to yes and you shouldnt have to worry. it should sort its own ending out for each device connected to your network

reverse phone number search compiles hundreds of millions of phone book records to help locate the owner's name, location, time zone, email and other public information.

Use a reverse phone lookup to:
Get the identity of an unknown caller.
Identify an area code.
Recall the name of a person whose number you wrote down.
Identify an unfamiliar phone number that shows up on your bill.
