I have aDlink router and wireless adaptor. My pc says the wireless adaptor is connected and the signal strength is excellent, but I cannot connect to the internet. The wireless adaptor works perfectly well when setup on another pc. What is going on here?

I'm guessing you have static addressing on, basically it has a set address and will not use another address to connect to the internet.

Go to Start >Control Panel>Network Connections
Search for whichever network connect you are using. If you don't know, do it for all of them then.

Select the one you think is your connecting then right-click it and select properties.

Highlight Internet Protocol(TCP/IP) and select properties. Select obtain address automatically.

Other issues could be restarting the computer because you need to restart it when installing network devices as such.

It is possible that the MAC address filter for the router to which you are trying to connect is set to ON. If so, when trying to connect to the signal, you will NOT be asked by a WEP key, but the system will simply NOT allow you to connect... no messages will be shown. :-( If it is your own router, make sure you add the MAC address of your wireless card receiver or simply set the router MAC address filter settings to OFF. Good luck!

You must connect your laptop to the router via Ethernet cable ONCE. After that, you will be able to use WiFi only.

Turn off your Cable / DSL modem, your D-Link router and your PC for about 2 minutes. Then, turn your Cable / DSL modem back on, and wait 2 more minutes. Then, turn your D-Link router back on and wait 2 more minutes.

Finally, turn on your PC and everything should work with the Ethernet cable.

Re-boot, after removing the Ethernet cable, and test your WiFi. It should also work properly, if your router settings are correct. If not, read the Router User Manual FIRST, then call D-Link tech support.

Don't forget to read about and enable WPA encryption.

Make sure you have a laptop/wireless adapter. Now go to Wireless network connections and go to refresh. Look for your network and click "Connect"
