School work. I am trying to-List all cars with price tags of less than 10000? grep [1-9]000$ cars. This is all the prices. I want less than 10000. Can someone help me??

My PC is a Pentium 4, 2.8 GHz, 448 MB RAM. It originally had a 80 GB HDD but some months ago I added a 250 GB HDD. Now it is very slow, although the HDs don't have too many files in them - the 250 Gb (master drive) is only 25% used and the 80 GB (slave drive) is 40%. Am I asking too much of the computer? Should I increase / update its RAM? Thanx

I have a HP 1210 printer,scanner,copier, and it scans and copies, but will not print from word, or anywhere. I have replaced the cable, re-installed the drivers, turned it on and off, etc, but my printer will change to offline after I send it a print job. What else can I try?

Hi all,
We have a router so we can run more than 1 PC at home. It is sat on top of the TV. My son is angry because for some reason his laptop keeps getting disconnected. However all our other PC's seem ok. We set our virgin set top box as we are broad band. However my son still keeps getting this problem. He runs his laptop from his bedroom upstairs whereas all our other Pcs run downstairs.
Is there anything else we can do?

I was thinking of buy a quad core system now for my brothers birthday wish is late august, but I feel somewhat foolish because I know the Phenom comes out in November. I don't know if it will be a week after I get the system or the end of November.

I also don't know how it will compare as far as price and as far as whether I'll be able to get it. The system I wanted to buy now would be about $1,000 with a quad core, 2GB of RAM, and a Geforce 8800gts. If I wait for the Phenom will that push not only the processor but also the motherboard cost way up when it first comes out? Plus, how much of a benefit will the new processor really be?

I have a windows xp laptop and just today when i try to turn it on, it goes to the start up screen, says it failed to start normally and to asks to choose a mode to enter. No matter what you press, it loops back the that menu after a few seconds

I got a Packard from PC World 2 years ago so quite new
with windows xp 1 gig RAM, 180 gig hard drive (a special)
AMD 64, 2.19 ghz.
Over the time it has got slower altho I run antivir, ad-aware and spybot.
Run firefox cos its faster and avoid spyware.

Any ideas welcome !

I have just purchased a new p.c. and do not appear to have any sound, I have followed the help and support and still no luck. As far as I can see it appears I do not have a sound card. What exactly is this, where can I get one and how do I install it. (is it actually a card, or is it in disc format)? p.s. not too 'hot' with computers, simple to follow answer wqould be appreciated.

saved a file with the same characters both in wordpad and word....wordpad file is 1kb, word file is 24kb..so give me a good reason why i shud use word instead of wordpad

my son age 5 has an old dell demension 8100, and there is an nvidia geforce 2 mx400 installed, and it is struggling to play some of his games, I bought an orignal dell pny geforce 5200 128mb card 8x agp, for £10 of ebay, I know its not very good card but will there be much of a noticable difference. also the motherboard does up to 4x agp, and the new card is 8x agp, will it fit the board or is it a no go?

I should have posted this before I bought the card, I know, duh!

I have had norton antivirus on my computer for about 6 months and as a result the computer is taking a long time to load up and is slow in general. I deleted this program and have found that my pc runs a lot faster. Now i have AVG free antivirus software, is this suitable and does it provide a reasonable level of virus protection,

For about the past month, I've been having trouble with the operation of my Microsft Optical Wheel mouse which was PS2 and USB compatible.

I suspect the problem is with the computer, but you tell me.

The computer is running XP pro and is constantly being updated by auto updates of whatever it is Microsoft is pushing at it and with JAVA updates.

I was running the mouse via the PS/2 adapter when the problem started. Under those conditions, the mouse pointer would stop moving and only a reboot (sometimes several reboots) would get it working again.

I have since switched to USB operation and downloaded the latest driver, which comes in the form of an Intellipoint dealy that allegedly can be configured to work for about a zillion mice.

Under those conditions, I can get the mouse to work again by waiting for XP to complain that it doesnt recognize something on the USB bus and dis/reconnecting the mouse cable. LEDs go out during fault.
Thoughts?
