I was thinking of buy a quad core system now for my brothers birthday wish is late august, but I feel somewhat foolish because I know the Phenom comes out in November. I don't know if it will be a week after I get the system or the end of November.

I also don't know how it will compare as far as price and as far as whether I'll be able to get it. The system I wanted to buy now would be about $1,000 with a quad core, 2GB of RAM, and a Geforce 8800gts. If I wait for the Phenom will that push not only the processor but also the motherboard cost way up when it first comes out? Plus, how much of a benefit will the new processor really be?

Well since we are past August, you might as well wait and make this a Christmas present (or Hanukkah or whatever December holiday of choice you celebrate). As far as prices, nothing official has come out yet, but AMD is known for selling reasonably priced items, so you should be good to go there. As for benefit, also an unknown, not a ton of information about performance has been released yet, best to just wait and see.
