Matters what software. For my pen tablet I spent about 40 minutes looking around for the compatible software since the original box CD wouldn't allow pressure sensitivity. I finally found it, luckily enough I have a very popular brand choice of pen tablet. Games like World of Warcraft and the new Team Fortress have lots of time outs and screen flashes. Hopefully you don't play games much. In my opinion, Vista is much more of a hassle than a reward or upgrade.. However, I do web-design.. so I have to use the latest "technology".

Check with your software maker for the version you have. Some are readilly compatible where others just are not. Some claim to be compatible and in fact they are only partly compatible.
There is no way anyone can advise you on this.

My HP printer, my netgear wireless usb adapter and my adobe programs (except reader) didn't work and I had to find new drivers for the printer and the usb adapter. Adobe says they will not go out of their way to make their product compatible with Vista. Most of your older programs will not work.
