I have just purchased a new p.c. and do not appear to have any sound, I have followed the help and support and still no luck. As far as I can see it appears I do not have a sound card. What exactly is this, where can I get one and how do I install it. (is it actually a card, or is it in disc format)? p.s. not too 'hot' with computers, simple to follow answer wqould be appreciated.

HI
The sound may be on your motherboard if so you should have a disk to set it up. press the windows key and pause break together and go to device manager see if you can find any reference to sound. If there is no on-board sound and you need to install a card. you have to put a card inside your computer in a PCI slot screw it in boot up windows and install the drivers from the CD that came with the card.
IMPORTANT!!!!!!!!
Make sure the you computer is unplugged when you add a card. Hope this helps with your problem

Hi. Soundblaster makes a series of cards (yes, they are cards) that just plug into one of your open PCI slots. Pretty easy. Just avoid static built up by touching the case while you install. Open the side of the case, usually a couple of screws on the back. The slots are visible on the main board. One screw holds the slot cover in place so remove it and keep the screw. Gently press the card into the slot. (It only goes one way.) Replace the screw and close the cover. If the card came with a CD, always run that first before you install.
