64 x 2

Intel Core 2 Duo Processors have a whopping 4 mb L2 cache memory while the Turion 64 X2 has only 1 mb L2 cache. The bigger the cache memory, the better processing and multi-tasking power the computer can do.

Here's the deal why I became an Intel fan. A year ago, I bought my very first laptop. It was an HP Pavilion DV9000 series laptop. 17" screen, built-in webcam, 2 gb of ram, geforce go 6100 graphics, very sleek design. It was powered by an AMD Turion 64 X2 processor though... At first, I was a big fan of AMD that's why I bought the laptop even if it was $1,300 USD. I did not doubt the power of the laptop and even skipped testing the demo unit from the store. When I got home, I then started testing its power by installing my tools for testing including 3DMark 2001 and 2003 plus some games. After installing all those softwares, I began testing and benchmarking my new laptop and to my surprise, this is the score I got from running 3DMark 2001, a very low 4577 points". Seeing my new laptop's score, the world stopped at that moment and I just froze. My previous desktop pc which was powered by an AMD Athlon XP 2400+ (2 ghz) and a ram of only 256 mb plus a geforce 5200 vga card had an 8000+ points. Fortunately, after a week, I was able to sell the laptop. It was easy to make that decision. Because of the need, I had to buy another laptop, with the same size of the screen, 17". During that time, all the branded and top-of-the-line laptops were sold out already. I saw some gateways and tested them. The one I bought was a 17" one with this time, an Intel Core 2 Duo Processor. It was worth buying it even if the graphics card was integrated. With the benchmarks i've done, it gave me 8000+ points on 3DMark 2001 and was quite fast on some 3d games like Warcraft 3, Generals, Max Payne 2 and other not-so-high-end games. It was working fine, but I wasn't still satisfied with it...

3 months ago when I was still in the U.S., I went to Costco to buy some stuff. Sometimes when you're not looking to buy something, that's when you find the stuff you're looking for... I wasn't really planning to buy a new laptop but when I saw this one, my eyes grew big and I started shaking... 17", Intel Core 2 Duo (2 ghz, T7300), 2 gb ram, GeForce Go 8600M GS with 256 mb dedicated graphics, 320 gb dual hard drives, Lightscribe DVDRW Drive and Windows Vista Home Premium, all these stuff for only $1,600 USD inclusive of tax was just awesome! 16000+ points on 3DMark 2001, 7000+ points on 3DMark 2003. Very fast on games like Tiberium Wars, Warhammer, Need for Speed, Transformers, Titan Quest, NBA Live, Harry Potter, Star Wars, Fable and more. It also supports playback of HD Videos.

Based on that experience, I can really say that Intel Processors rule right now although for sure, AMD will try and beat the crap out of them again like they did before... But who knows when??...

So there it is. I hope I was able to give you some useful infos.

'Nuff said.

I'm currently looking at them both for a friend who's wanting a new laptop.

From what I've seen, they are quite equal overall regarding technology and performance. If you go to the AMD and Intel sites and look at the spec's they are pretty equal.

Now I know some diehards will say that this one is this, and that one is that, but to the average user you won't see a bit of difference in them as long as they have approximately the same GHz rating.

My recommendations are:

1. For general computing and decent game play go with a minimum of a 2.0 or 2.1GHz processor. If you're not into games, then the 1.8GHz level will most likely suffice your needs.

2. If you're into more intense games or do high level processing tasks, then go for as fast a processor as you can possibly afford. AFFORD is the key because the prices go up very fast with each step in speed.

Hope this helps a little. Have fun shopping!!!

that may not a Delima in any respect. the two AMD and Intel the two are suited of the line in proccesors. the alternative is going to be what to do in 3 months while they arrive out with the subsequent technology. and then 6 months after that. i'm slightly at odds on the reality you have chosen an HP as a replace of a DELL. At any value that determination is yours. For my money I choose the Dell over any computing device on the marketplace for a myrid of motives to no longer forget approximately client record. There service is previous study. era. If I have been you i could carry out a little actual severe procuring. If value is a controversy then you certainly get the HP yet while high quality and toughness is a controversy Dell each and each of ways. the two are remarkable Don

they are very comparable but the core 2 duo is a lil bit better as a processor;I'd compare the graphics cards though a lot of Intel laptops use on board graphics that shares memory and amd owns ati so all amd laptops have a separate chip for graphics .so with that in mind its more likely that the better laptop will be the turion machine will be better overall

They are essentially the same as far as basic specs. They are both 64 bit processors and they are both dual-core.

Aside from that, it's a matter of preference. Intel has more years experience building processors, but you pay for that experience.

AMD builds a decent processor for the price.

I would suggest the Intel chip from these two processors as it tends to perform better than the AMD chip all other things being equal.

When all else fails, look to third party reviews. Tom's Hardware is an excellent source for such reviews.
