and then I can't get online , even though I am connected. I have tried to repiar the connection ,that doesn't work.My laptop can connect to other networks with no problem and I am using I netgear wireless routerWPN824, however I do not have a usb adaptor/or pc card. Can I manually put in the IP address and connect. if so tell me how NETGear charges for customer support!! grrr

I get many junk mailings to my Yahoo account ever since I signed up for free coupons. Recently, I have received a few phishing, identity theft mailings. My Yahoo address has been spread out, and exposed to entire public, I believe it is safe to close this particular account. Is there any things that I shoud be aware of...to prevent myself to redusing the risk to be targeted?

When using your laptop, the more programs you opened, the faster the battery will run out. What about in a personal computer when you have opened a lot of applications, does it consume more electricity (resulting to a higher bill) or it doesn't matter?
One friend told me that it does make a difference but most of the people I know say the amount consumed(electricity) is fixed.

I am thinking of switching my compuer to Linux...what is a good variant/release that you can recommend for stability and security?
I had an old release of Mandrake years ago...not bad but crashed a lot, full of security holes, bugs.

As well, I have WinXP pro installed..it it a pain to make a dual boot *absoultely without partitioning (don't want to do this)*, or should I just get another machine?

My main uses: total security (total lock down with firewalls and encryption, paranoid tracking utilities) programming, word processing tools, and surfing.

yahoo assined a password and it will not allow me to change it. when i try "(about 30 times on at least 4 different computers)it says YOU HAVE SUCESSIFULY CHANGED YOUR PASSWORD" then it will only allow acess with original password!!! this has been going on for 2+ years PLEASE HELP???

My Mcaffee Antivirus has just expired. I never had a firewall and everthing has been just fine with no problems for the past year.

I went to best buy and they had on sale Mcaffee's viruscan and firewall as a package deal for 29.99.

The guy there wanted to sell me however PCScillen for 40 bucks and it was only the viruscan.

The reason why he said that the PCScillen was better was because he said it had less system requirements which inturn would make the computer run faster. Is he right?

Also he said that windows has a built in firewall. What do y'all computer dudes and dude ettes think HMMN?

i have this laptop and one day it just lost the connection to the internet....i went to the pc shop and he connected it to his internet cable and it worked fine....so i connected another pc to my line and i had internet connection too
So i dont know where the problem is?
Its not with my pc and not with the cable that connects to the internet
How can i fix this problem?
