Ok, bottom line, if its from someone you DONT know and there is an attachment, dont open it. No if's,and's,or butt's.

If you do know the person, then it probably iis safe to open. Encrypted means the code in it is scrambled, meaning if the code was 001110101 it would be scrambled to 110101001. The reason for doing this is if a virus were to infect your system, it wouldnt be able to infect that one because it was encrypted(or locked). To unencrpyt it, you need a program. Go to www.download.com and search encrpyt see what you get!

This email has some key elements of most phishing/spam email: 1) They ask you for information that they should already have if they collected such information. (your user ID and password) 2) They ask for your password - it is a dead giveaway. In point of fact most systems that require you to create a password save only an encrypted version of your password that they can not retrieve easily. They don't need to because they have low level access (root or admin) to the system so can access your stuff without even logging in as you. 3) They suggest dire consequences if you don't respond with the requested information. 4) The email occurred out of the blue (e.g. not as a response to a question or support request you made to them.) Before you ask about others - Your bank, 401(k), credit card companies etc... will NEVER send an email to you like this out of the blue requesting information either. Do not ever respond to an email of this nature - they are rampant on the internet.
