You could disable a lot of the stuff from loading at start up that you don't need. Click Start > Run > type msconfig > OK > click Srartup tab and un-check some of the stuff you know you don't need at startup, * but make sure you don't un-check something you will need, just un-check things you know you can start later if you need them, click Apply and OK, or if you are unsure what to un-check you can go under the General tab and tick Diagnostic Startup, which loads basic devices and services only, click Apply and OK. This would be the easiest one to change back to the way it was.

Try running disk cleanup. It is under Accessories and then Systems Tools in your start menu. This will delete temporary files which may be slowing your computer. If you have never run defrag (its in the same place as disk clean up) do so. This will bring all your files together so the computer has to spend less time searching for them to load up.
Run your anti-virus program (making sure it is updated first) to check for any virus that may be slowing your computer.
Another thing you can do is download an adware/spyware deletion program (Ad-Aware and Spybot are the best) and run it. This will get rid of tracking programs, cookies, etc. which are one of the most common causes of slow load ups, particularly if you have had your computer for a while.
Another thing you can do is check how many programs boot on start up. If there is a bunch that don't need to be there (internet browsers, games, etc) take them off. The fewer programs, the less time needed to load. However, if you aren't sure whether a program is necessary for the computer to load properly, leave it alone.

Some anti virus programs will slow down your computer significantly.
How much information have you stored that your computer has to check out while in the booting process. Too much of a load takes time.

You might try defragmenting your hard drive, that helps some times.

I formerly had Mcafee virus scan and it made my computer extemely slow. I was on AOL at the time. After I formated my hard drive reinstalled Windows Me
it only takes a minute now and I am up and running.

Hope this helps.

well if it's only the booting proccess that's slow then i guess it's not your RAM that's a problem. You may have viruses hon and you should scan for them using a strong antivirus like Mcafee. also, try defragmenting your drive. This will organise your files and make your pc run faster. Run the disc cleanup wizard to get rid of unwanted program files and delete temporary internet files.

One thing i discovered is, especially with windows XP, viruses attach themselves to your system restore files. This prevents your antivirus from detecting them cuz the restore files are off limits. Turn off the sytem restore in your MY Computer Properties then restart your pc. After restarting, scan and when you're done you can turn restore back on.

Good luck

Most if not all the answers to your question have answered ways in which you can speed the starting up of windows once you have logged in. But your question seems like you meant the Boot up process which is the period when you turn your system on till you get the Log on screen.
If that is the case then try use some softwares like bootavis mainly focussing on speeding up the proper loading of all the system and hardware drivers for your hardware.

Cheers ;)

You didn't mention how old your PC is. But if its a newer computer then upgrade the RAM also you can check the task manage and see what is all running you may have too much running in your background and can shut off those you don't need, also you can get software that will get rid of junk files. And if its an old computer (4 yrs or older) I'd suggest getting a new computer because computers are getting very cheap.

Try disabling extra services running on your machine. Such as, quicktime task, aim, aol, etc.. Go To start, run-> msconfig. now select the Selective Startup radio button, and uncheck local startup items.

hit ok, and exit without restart. when the computer restarts hit the check box and hit ok. that should increase it a little bit. Also, try upgrading hardware such as ram, and harddrives. (7200 rpm, 10000rpm).

Also, if you set a static ip for your pc, you can increase loading times by a fraction of a second. but lol.

hope it helps

try getting a disk cleaning program like system mechanic, or tuneup utilities. they speed up your computer by deleting junk files. and if your computer is just plain slow, then get some more ram i recommend have at least 512mb's or more and it wouldnt cost no more then $100 to upgrade it. a GREAT wholesale site for computer parts is www.tigerdirect.com it comes straight from the factory, so its cheaper. and if i didnt have dial up, i would send you the tuneup utilities program through email.
