Computers & Internet - 8 September 2006

The HD itself works and I can turn it on and off. The problem is that my PC doesn't connect to it, meaning that when I plug it in, I hear a sound, suggesting that a device has been connected, but there is no icon showing this, and also "My Computer" does not show an external drive.

do you think it's fair that people get 2 points for answering a question without really answering it? like when people post " 2 points"??? shouldn't you only get the points if you really answer the question? i know i'm letting myself in for a series of "no, but i'll take my 2 points" answers, but i suppose that does answer the question!

I have audio/music on my pc as WMA files. I burned them onto a CD, but it won't play in my car or other CD players. I used Windows Media Player to do this. Do I need special software or is it just a file conversion issue???? Please help.

I've bought this CD-ROM recently. When I installed it on my PC the machine says SYSTEM HALT due to IDE installation error and it stays that way. I took it back to the vendor for a recheck. There, on his machine, it worked perfectly. So, I asked him what's wrong. He said there's nothing wrong with either the CD-ROM or my machine. He said that some jumper settings, on my mother board, has to adjusted for running this device. I checked my motherboard's user manual, but it was of no help. Could advise me about this trouble? Do you know exactly which jumpers has to be adjusted? Please help.

I have a real problem, My machine was infected by a virus(i don't remenber it's name), it (my PC) begans to restar everytime I was listen music. then I found Avast(antivirus) and it detect the virus, so with my permission the avast begans to delete the virus and some others infected files, and I don`t know if avast delete a system's file or the virus still survive, but the thing is that after that, my PC always restar without loading the operative system (windows XP).
Then i try to repair the system with an installation CD of win xp, and my PC boots form the CD but when it is still loading my machines restar again, then I try with a Knopix CD wich is a LINUX that can boot form the CD, but when it ti loading my machines reastar again, if I disconnect my hard drive and conect another totally new (in blank) hard drive and try to install windows XP form a new installation CD, my machine restart again.
I apreciate step by step suggestions and no just a LINK, but any advice is welcome
