The HD itself works and I can turn it on and off. The problem is that my PC doesn't connect to it, meaning that when I plug it in, I hear a sound, suggesting that a device has been connected, but there is no icon showing this, and also "My Computer" does not show an external drive.

IF your computer is seeming the device in the device manager than its not able mount it and than means that it needs some sort of the driver or the drive is formated in the formate which is not supported by your computer
