Well, you don't have to.

Close any apps you are using and install Yahoo! Messanger.

If you are having problems connecting you might check your firewall settings. Having all of your security settings and privacy settings in the Default configuration is not a bad thing - it's easy to keep track of.

If you've created some protocol binding's you can undo them by simply uninstalling TCP/IP and reinstalling it. You may need to have your Windows CD handy when you do this.

Yahoo Messenger has nothing to do with Firefox and vice versa.
