I've bought this CD-ROM recently. When I installed it on my PC the machine says SYSTEM HALT due to IDE installation error and it stays that way. I took it back to the vendor for a recheck. There, on his machine, it worked perfectly. So, I asked him what's wrong. He said there's nothing wrong with either the CD-ROM or my machine. He said that some jumper settings, on my mother board, has to adjusted for running this device. I checked my motherboard's user manual, but it was of no help. Could advise me about this trouble? Do you know exactly which jumpers has to be adjusted? Please help.

is your cd rom and your hard drive on the same IDE cable
if it is then it might be a jumper issue
make sure your hard drives jumper is set to master or master w/slave
and the jumper on the cd rom is set to slave
to set the jumpers-hold the hard drive with the end that has the connections facing you-youll see three sectoins with metal pins one of those sections will be very small and have a little plastic thing over 2 of the pins that plastic piece is the jumper
if you look at the sticker on your hard drive it will tell you how to set the jumper for the different options-same with the cd rom
if they are on different IDE cables make sure they are both set to master
if this doesnt work ther might be a compatibility issue with the new cd rom and your OS or something
good luck

The CD ROM jumper should be set to Master, unless you have another drive on the pc as well. If you have a CD-ROM, and a burner, for example, the burner should be set th slave, and the other to Master.
BTW, the jumper is the little plaastic piece next to the power and IDE inputs on the drive itself. You just move the jumper to one of the 4 positions: CS (cable Select), Master, Slave, and another one you'll never need to use.

the cd drive will have instuctions on it for the jumper settings ,
check the existing setting , if its not master ,try changing to setting to master .if it doesn't work try connecting it to the the primary ide cable, which already will have the hard drive on one of its slots, this time set the jumper for a slave setting.

CD-ROM drives and PATA hard drives have a MASTER/SLAVE/CS jumper setting on them. You should avoid using the CS and set the hard drive to MASTER and the CDROM to SLAVE. Also, some drives such as Western Digital have "no jumper" for single drive mode, in which case you'll need to set it to MASTER.
