McAfee is and excellent protection package.

No single protection package can protect your computer from all the Malware on the Net. You will need to add additional Anti-Spyware programs for better protection. Do not use more than one Anti-Virus program.

I would recommend you add Windows Defender Beta 2 and read the Microsoft site for setting it up and using it. With this knowledge it is a very good AS program. I also recommend adding SpywareBlaster. It blocks malware it is programed to recognize.

Windows Defender Beta 2:

SpywareBlaster:

I also recommend you read this site. You will be amazed at what you learn here.

I've had McAfee virus scanner and firewall for about a year now. I have no complaints. It's done a great job of keeping my system free of viruses and hackers out! If the price is reasonable and you feel it's doing a good job, then I'd renew it.

Otherwise, there are other free Virus scanners out there. Several were already mentioned, but AOL also has a free one, and now that their service is free, you can get it too. I've heard good things about it.

i assume you bought the computer already and are asking about
buying McAfee security or anti-virus. My PC tech, who fixes my
PC when it goes bad, said that the free version of AVG is better than Norton and McAfee. it doesn't tie up your resources nor take as
long to run as those two do. I'm using it four months now no problems. ALSO RECOMMEND free version of ZoneAlarm. Both
ZoneALarm and AVG are available free at download.com. Hope this helps.

Yes. I bought it for three years, and am glad I did. With my last PC, I tried some of the free stuff at download.com, and ended up with bad viruses which ruined the PC. I trust Dell & McAfee.

No McAfee, like Norton, is crap...you're just paying for a name. Use AVG...it's free and works great! Just be sure to completely uninstall McAfee first.

No, dont buy it. I had the free trial too, but after it ran out I downloaded AVG free. It works just as well and doesn't cost anything. Use the link Yoi put in his answer.
