before I couldn't even get the microsoft update page to load. I finally was able to start installing sp2, and had to go to bed while it was downloading (I have dialup, so it takes a while). When I woke up my brother said he 'thought' it was downloaded. I went to the Microsoft page to make sure, and it said it failed and that there was the error code 0x80072F78.

I don't know why windows update never works for me. my xp version is valid, not pirated or anything. I turned on automatic updates (look at my previous questions)

um....my os is windows xp home edition version 2002
only has sp1 because I can't download sp2 >.<

I have a 1998-99 era computer (mobo MS 6117 version 1.1 LX6) that I'm trying to put back together and get working. This computer was given to me (I have no documentation). It does have 2 USB ports so that may help determine the age of the computer.....just a thought.

Here's a concern of mine if I can get the mobo and everthing else hooked up correclty (the mobo was only partially attached to the case when I go it)......The CMOS battery is gone!! This means the CMOS settings have not been saved.

And that means the computer is not going to know how to configure the computer if and when I get it put back together.

As a result, it's not going to be able to boot the computer until the "settings" are restored.

Any good advice for me (other than saying dump it)?

What can I do? I'd really like to get this thing going again. I also want to learn how to build a computer.

Hi there..I made some adjustment to the alignment of a document my colleague sent to me on an excel spreadsheet. The words and figures were all in order on the computer screen but when I tried to print it or "print preview" , they all went out of whack . The size of the paper was fine but the words were not in the same position. HELP! :-(

i've cleaned it with antiviurs, and antispyware software. we've totally removed and cleaned the windows program, reinstalled and it's still not back to par. i don't know what else to do. it's to the point that the pc will barely stay up long enough to log in. i'm pretty literate with pc's so any help would be appreciated.

Okay, I will be doing a research project travelling the United States videotaping people for a documentary (if you know the best camcorder to get that's small and works great and compatible w/ a laptop/notebook i'd like to hear about it).

I need a laptop/computer that has wireless internet, firewall, an ethernet connection, cd/dvd burner (i want the dvd burner, not just the dvd player), I also need some kind of media software and it needs to have good sound and can do good video editing.

Any suggestions? What price range will I be looking at?

Three months ago I switched over from Windows 2000 Server to Windows XP Prof.

Atleast once per day MSN 8.0 live messenger will hang. Windows Task Mgr., will not end program. I have to do a manual reboot to end program.

I sent the "Event Viewer", file to Microsoft Support showing the hang error. They came back and says "don't have an answer to resolve this problem". Search of their technical data shows no real answer to resolve an application hang problem.

Does not take much brains for some one to be smarter then Microsoft.

Any answers please to resolve application hang, or why the pointer on the mouse vibrates after about three monthsof use.

I have purchased atleast ten different brands of mouse and after about three months of use the arrow will start to vibrate on it's own. (I have to tap the mouse on the desk to stop the vibration so I can use the mouse pointer).

Just built a "new" pc (spec below) from some brand new components and some old ones. When i power up the unit all the fans and lights come on as they should but then it just dies and the only way i can get the pc to power up again is to pull the kettle lead from the back and plug it back in again.
SPEC
AMD Athlon XP 3000 (old)
Aspire ATX-AS420w PSU (new)
ASRock microAtx Motherboard K7541 (new)
2x 512Mb PC3200 DDR Ram (1 old , 1 new)
LG 512 DVD Rw
Western Digital 80 Gb Hdd

I also have an Ati Sapphire Graphics card and a creative live 5.1 sound card, but havn't installed these yet as the new motherboard has onboard sound and graphics.

Please help this is really starting to pee me off !!
