No you cannot. This is because a CD drive is a piece of hardware. If it's not good enough, software can't fix it. All that your software can do is work with what's already there. You could upgrade your drive by changing the hardware.

No the drive is built as either a cd drive or a burning drive. If you have a cd drive you would have to replace it with a DVD burning drive if you want the ability to burn a dvd or a cd. Or with a cd burnign drive if you want the ability to just burn cd's. A normal cd drive does not have the necessary hardware in it to write a disc. Hope this helps

No, the hardware is different. CD writers have a more powerful laser. When the laser is turned to its high power setting it causes the transparency of the photosensitive dye on the CD-R discs surface to become less transparent, creating the equivelent of the pit in the surface that commercial CD mastering produces.

You cant convert it with the software. You can change the lens and the firmware to convert it. Its easier to buy one instead of upgrading it.

No, you need hardware thats capable. But softwares part of it, when you install drivers, but the lens and stuff are different.
