I never understood the rave reviews Firefox always gets. It's a pain. Never heard of that problem before, though. I never use desktop icons anyway. All the icons I need a lot, I put on a quick launch toolbar. All I can suggest is ............ wait for it.............. re-install Firefox (sorry) and carefully uninstall it again using the proper control panel procedure. That might straighten things out.
Once you've done that, get yourself Avant Browser. That really is better than IE and is much much easier to install and use.

Hi there,
There isn't anything about the downloading or deleting of Firefox that should have affected your icons - they should be totally unrelated. I'm going to paste some info and their links below about different possible solutions for this nasty problem:
"Virus scan. Then try System Restore. If that doesn't work, don't reformat your hard drive yet. Run a Repair Installation."
"You need to download Start Up Organizer. Start it up, go to Tools, start up guard, and you'll most likely see c:\windows\explorer.exe which will have a red cross to the left of it, just click with the mouse over the cross to make it as a green tick, this will enable the system to then find/see the rest of the command and programmes. I know this because I spent a week asking around and figured it out after hours in the late night. And it worked. You might even find 100 cpu as well so hopefully this will be sorted."

"Try safe mode and do a system restore."
http://discussions.virtualdr.com/archive/index.php/t-161012.html
"Try refreshing the icon cache by deleting the IconCache.db file from your profile directory (usually /Documents and Settings/Username/Local Settings/Application Data). It will be automatically recreated.
If that doesn't work, download TweakUI (a Microsoft program - http://download.microsoft.com/download/whi...wertoySetup.exe ) and install. Then go to the very last option in the menu tree - called Repair. Hit on it then try the Rebuild Icons feature."

If you can afford $10, you can buy an answer to this question:
"After uninstalling some programs on my computer (Win95), my desktop shortcut icons no longer start the programs their associated with. Double clicking them doesn't work. I can right click them and click Open and they start the programs ok (except the My Computer icon). These are shortcuts that I've created myself. Any help would be appreciated." http://www.experts-exchange.com/Operating_Systems/Win95_3x/Win95/Q_10146165.html
How to do a system restore:

Here's another question/answer site, but this one allows you to ask actual experts privately. Just choose your Windows version:

If none of this gets you anywhere, it's time to find a computer-tech friend or professional to judge whether a reformat will be necessary. Best of luck!

is it uninstalled properly, under CONTROL PANEL.
Make sure it is not running where the clock is on the bottom right hand corner.
Delete it off your desktop as well. That should hopefully work.

I think Firefox is fantastic and haven't had one single problem with it. It is a lot faster at loading web pages - especially ones with video content. You must have made a mistake whilst uninstalling it.
10 points please
