I put a higher priced musical instrument for sale on a major city's newspaper's website and recieved an email indicating interest in purchase. Quickly the emails became odd and obviously "scam oriented" as the purchaser told me he was sending twice the purchase price in Postal Money Orders and wanted me to send the other half (sounds like laundering) to an account. I checked on wikipedia, FBI and USPS websites and all sound like this is a scam originating from Ghana or Nigeria. I sent a final email a while ago indicating the instrument had been sold and that he should not call,email or send me anything. He has called through AT&T assisted internet calls but I have not answered. The phone messages have been rude and angry and it's somewhat disconcerting. What should I do if I recieve the illegal postal money orders? What should I do in general?

I have a Toshiba 1800-s254(spare laptop) that I am wanting to wipe the hard drive clean and install Linux. Could anyone suggest a version of Linux to install?
I am looking for something more stable then Windows. If you would suggest something other then Linux then please post it.

Im not a compleete dummy to computers so I tried a few things i though could be wrong.....My problem is when i hook up my computer as I normaly would, and when i turn on my computer the little light on the monitor goes from green to orange, and the screen is black, so i have tried diffrent things....
1. Put in some spare video cards i have around
2. Hooked up monitor to another computer, works perfect.
3. Keep the computer and monitor off for several hours.

The fans in the computer are working normal, there are no beeps in the machine, now I have no idea what the problem could be....the computer worked great before and now its just doing this.....any other suggestions i could try???

I bought a used Digital Western WDC WD800JD-22LSA0 hard drive from Newegg, and it took me a while to get it installed (it required a SATA cable which i didn't have till just recently) and I finally got it installed, but it aint apearing on my computer. I goto my Device Manager, and it says that it is installed, and working properly, and I went throught the troubleshooting process, and I got confused by the techincal stuff in it. I know only the basics about computers, I managed to build this one, but I aint too far past the basics... Please help me figure out how to access the hard drive and/or get it working to my computer, and fix any problem it may have. I am running short on the hard drive space I presently have, and I could use as much help as possible soon. Thanks.

I just installed Windows Live Messenger (MSN Instant Messenger) and every time I try to sign in, it comes up with:

“Signing into Windows Live Messenger failed because the service is temporarily unavailable. Please try again later. Error code 80040111

Can anyone tell me why this is? I have had it installed now for about a week and no matter when I try to sign in, it always comes up with this. What do I need to do to get this to work?

Heres the problem.... It started three days ago. I got a popup from windows that said I am infected with spyware yattayatta and that my computer and security is in danger and that I need to clean it offf by downloading some Windows spyware remover which of course will cost me mucho money. Then the popups won't stop coming... EVERY 30 SECONDS. And there is now another windows popup with ANOTHER spyware remover which wants me to pay. I can't uninstall it. I can't x it out, as everytime I click on it it tries to make me pay money. My internet pages won't load, my computer is freezing up, AND YET I ALREADY HAVE Adaware Spyware remover, and I've been running it everyday! Now also I am getting popups saying I have adult cookies and temps on my computer (which is impossible) and that it will compromise my credit. My backround (wallpaper) is now a black screen that says DANGER YOUR INFECTED! And won't change. Every time I try to go to McAfee Virus Scan's website to download it, it says page

The 10 is dying I think. I know I can switch the plastic thing on back of the 80gb to make it primary master and put it where the 1gb is ( on the cables) but before the 10 gives up I would like to transfer the OS to the 80 and make it bootable. How do I do this please?

I just finished building my computer and I was starting it up when I ran into a problem. My motherboard does not have a graphics card built in, so I bought a PCI card and inserted it into the PCI slot. The problem is that, to have any graphics I need a driver, but to install the driver (which I have on a disk), I need graphics. What am I doing wrong?

I accidentally hit a button on my keyboard and the only thing i have at the top of my screen is the navigation buttons and the stop, refresh, etc. I have no place for typing the website i want. All i can do is type what I want in the search area in yahoo because that is my homepage. HELP!!!!
