Heres the problem.... It started three days ago. I got a popup from windows that said I am infected with spyware yattayatta and that my computer and security is in danger and that I need to clean it offf by downloading some Windows spyware remover which of course will cost me mucho money. Then the popups won't stop coming... EVERY 30 SECONDS. And there is now another windows popup with ANOTHER spyware remover which wants me to pay. I can't uninstall it. I can't x it out, as everytime I click on it it tries to make me pay money. My internet pages won't load, my computer is freezing up, AND YET I ALREADY HAVE Adaware Spyware remover, and I've been running it everyday! Now also I am getting popups saying I have adult cookies and temps on my computer (which is impossible) and that it will compromise my credit. My backround (wallpaper) is now a black screen that says DANGER YOUR INFECTED! And won't change. Every time I try to go to McAfee Virus Scan's website to download it, it says page

I still have a problem. ( I THOUGHT IT WAS GONE) :-( Every 10 minutes or so, or everytime I click on IE, I get a warning, (which I have been getting since this started) telling me about malicious and dangerous spyware on my computer, and it wants me to buy something etc. etc. That won't go away, and I still was unable to access mcafee.com, however, via download.com (aka cnet) I was able to download Mcafee full version, and preform a full system scan... according to mcafee I am trouble free, save one file, adwre, that is rooted in my Wondows OS and cannot be deleted. I WILL NOT reformat my drive, I just did that a month ago, and I am very unwilling to go through it again so soon.... what else can I do?

you do have spyware. do not buy the on in the popup ads. that's what they want you to do.
get adaware (free version). lavasoftusa.com (i think, but check google for adaware if that's not the right page)

First off, take a large deep breath, then scream :)

Ok, odds are the pop up you saw was made to appear like it came from windows, but it was not - it was just another piece of spyware/adware. If you downloaded what it wasked you to , your computer is infected to the gills with various and sundry pieces of malware and spyware. Many of the more current ones damage or disable antivirus/antispyware software so that no matter how many times you run them they will not work, and it will also block you from getting software to help out ( the problem you are having with the McAfee web site ).

The best way to get past this is to boot in wondows "Safe Mode", and select " Safe Mode with Networking ". This will start windows without loading extras or addons - giving you the bare minimum you need to operate. At this point, you need to run antivirus and anti spyware software that you know is good - that is , not something you were told to download by a popup or other such methods. It may take several passes with different software to get rid of everything that has found it's way onto your computer.

My reccomendations are :

spybot search & destroy : (http://www.safer-networking.org/ )
BE CAREFUL - there are fake copies out there , only go through safer networking.org

AVAST : ( http://www.avast.com ) this is an excellent antivirus package that is free for home use. It will also scan items as tehy download preventing alot of sneaky or tricky bits from getting past.

This will be some work, and take some time - alot of people will tell you to jsut erase everythign and start over, but it is possible with some perserverance to recover your machine to the point of being able to save data and/or clean everything up.

Good luck!

Here's my recommendation:

1. Scan your system with Housecall Online Virus Scanner at http://housecall.antivirus.com

2. Download and scan your system with a primary anti-spyware software: Ad Aware Personal (www.lavasoft.de)

3. Download and scan your system with a secondary anti spyware software: Spybot Search and Destroy (http://www.safer-networking.org )

If it found all the malwares, delete them. If you know what type of spyware, state the name here and I'll check it out and let you know the removal instructions. Hope everything works out.

I suggest you scan your computer on next boot. Update antivirus signatures and install windows defender or spybot. Needless to say, update your OS regularly from windows update. If still have a problem, boot from another drive and scan this disk thoroughly

Do a system restore
go to programs-Accesories-system tool-system restore.
Set to a date before all of this

AND FROM THIS POINT ON DO NOT USE INTERNET EXPLORER. Use firefox instead. Same look but a thousand time better.

good luck
