I just finished building my computer and I was starting it up when I ran into a problem. My motherboard does not have a graphics card built in, so I bought a PCI card and inserted it into the PCI slot. The problem is that, to have any graphics I need a driver, but to install the driver (which I have on a disk), I need graphics. What am I doing wrong?

when you first start up building a computer the motherboard should recognize and use very basic drivers for the graphics card. because of this you can start off by booting your computer and going into the bios for the motherboard and making sure that the first choice for the graphics is the PCI slot. (this will speed things up later) Then just go ahead and load whatever operating system your are planing to use. Once you have it loaded then you can install the drivers for your video card and start using it to the full potential.

I have built a few computers myself so if I can help in anyway just let me know.

A picture will come up on the screen when you install the card in your computer and plug your monitor into the card. Your computer should boot up and your screen will look kinda funky because it'll be set on the lowest color setting. Once booted up you insert your disk and install the drivers.

If your screen isn't turning on when you turn on the computer, make sure your monitor is plugged into the new card you installed. If it is, You need to move your video card to the first PCI slot (the one closest to your processor). Make sure it's not in the bottom PCI slot.

Hope this helps.

Make sure your PCI card is inserted correctly and your monitor is hooked up to it correctly. It will boot up in a generic graphic mode. It will be huge and not pretty, but it will work good enough for you to install the driver. If it stays blank, it's defective.

You might want to try checking the brightness and contrast on the monitor too.

I cant understand you! Insert the card into the PCI slot. Start your PC, if the driver's in the cd, insert the cd and install/setup.

Have you tried starting it in the safe mode and then loading your new driver?
