I mean I can find a few decent websites with good stuff run by good people ,but the internet just is too empty to me. Someone could say its a wasteland of porn and fanfiction. What do you think?

To your first question: NO. Wonderful research tool. BUT, have you ever been on the Internet??? Or just the HTTP::/ whateverspideronwhateverweb/. Ever hear about the use net, news groups, alt.binaries, bbs's or ftps? All due respect, porn only counts for something just over 1% of the web. And the www web about 14% of the Internet. So, there are net surfers and there are web browsers.

You have to know what to put into the search engines.
If one thing doesn't work, try something else slightly different. I can pretty much always find what I'm looking for, except for in a few rare cases.
As for the wasteland of porn and fanfiction, there sure is a lot of both, but navigating around them isn't too hard.

Nope, it's not hard to find stuff you need, it all depends upon the way a search engine is used. If you just add tag's like -porn -nude -erotic you will come up with non-porn links. And what's a wasteland to you is fantasyland to other's.

You are right there man. But looking at the real world, it is almost the same thing. There should be an association to prevent porn sites from growing. Still, it would depend on which country those stuffs are in. Local authorities act according to the laws of the country...

I think that it is near impossible to find what you are actually looking for. Go to google and type in something like "rate of return on mortgage backed securities"
and what do you get but about a hundred websites with google adwords on them or listings for places that do mortgages. Nothing even close to what you are looking for. Most of the time I am not able to find what I am looking for unless it is an address.
