My oldest daughter heads to university this fall. We're giving her a laptop as a graduation present.

Budget is an issue, so we've been advised to buy either an Acer, or an HP Sempron 3000. (Hope I've got the product names right...)

It has to be under $1,000. And that's $1,000 Cdn~! What would you suggest?

My wife believes my daughter hit something on the keyboard and it lockec up. When you Ctrl-Alt-Del and get password field, you get a warning chime everytime you try to type password. Does anyone have any idea what needs to be done to unlock?

I have another account with another website and I have a profile tracker on it, but the only way it works is if the people who view your profile are members. Otherwise it will just give you a date, time, and ip address. When you click on the ip address, it will tell you where you are from but not a name. The reason I ask this is because there is someone who looks at my profile 20 times a day, like they are spying on me. I think I know who it is, but ?I need to be sure. Please help.

It was not charging when i had it plugged it in so i got really mad. It continued to do this for a long time so i finally got really mad and stressed that i punched my laptop. Then the next day i tried charging it and i noticed that the part where the charger was supposed to go in had gotten pushed back and I was not able to use my laptop anymore. I was scared to tell my parents so i ended up using the other computer in my home. My brother was on the comp. I told him to leave and he said no so i ended up telling my parents everything and im going to get it fixed tonight when my dad gets back from work. Im scared what if the same thing happens again. What should i do to keep myself from puching it cuz i already tried punching the main family computer.
