I want to open a folder and then just print out what I see - a list of the files. I don't want to print the files themselves.

I haven't found a way to do it directly in Windows, but there is a solution if you want to learn a little bit of the old DOS commands. First, open an instance of the Command Prompt (Start>Accessories, or Start>Run>cmd.com) Then, at the C prompt ("C:\"), type in the letters "cd", and then the path of the directory you are wanting to look at. Be careful. If you are wanting the My Documents folder (or any subfolder, like My Music), you'll have to use to entire path; in other words:

cd c:\Documents and Settings\(username)\My Documents\

Now you should have a really long prompt. What you should do now is type this in:

dir /a >listing.txt

And hit return. This will send a list of all the files to the newly created file listing.txt, which you can open with notepad or any other word processor, format to your liking, and print. To get out of the window, type:

exit

and hit return.

yes an old trick from win 95 yet still works today.... open the fold and display in list form then hit print screen..... go to wordpad in your start menu -> all prgrams -> accessories and then hit the paste button ( the one with the clipboard on it )..... your screen shot will show up if you have more files you will have to repeat the first 3 steps again but scrolled down in the folder after printing the page.....

Well, when you have the window open that you want to print you can do this:

1. press the "Print Screen or Print SCR"
2. Then open a program like ms paint or ms word and "paste"

Your "screenshot" will be there. This you can print. I dont know of another way.

all I'd know is to open the folder and make screenshots

hit the Print Screen button then paste it in paint, then you can save and print the picture

Of course you can! You may add an extra option to the File menu (this requires some registry changes...), Or simply install a freeware that does this for you! The link is below!
