Well, usually the program detects your burners top speed. Just make sure "Buffer Underun Protection" is enabled, or in some cases "SmartBurn". It will burn the CD as quickly as possible without turning it into a "coaster" (improperly burned, useless, and used as a coaster instead).

You should choose the fastest speed your burner can do, which is usually 52x for a CD-R. If there is a "Maximum" option, select it; the fastest write speed is automatically selected. Although there is a slightly higher chance for errors when using a higher write speed, this almost never happens, and should not discourage you from selecting the fastest speed. If errors do occur, redo the project and select a slower speed. :)

whatever, it doesnt really matter. most writers have a buffer underrun facitity that will make the CD write at the best possible speed. the speed is how fast the disk is spinning when it is written, NOT the speed the CD spins in the CD player

i would go for about 32x just incase your machine is doing something else when writing to the cd.
i always set audio/dvd etc down a notch.

The fastest but if you have buffer problems then try a slower speed.
