A 36-year-old female had an accident several weeks ago and totalled her
car. A resident of Wollongong , NSW, she was travelling between
Wollongong & Sydney . It was raining, though not excessively, when her
car suddenly began to hydroplane and literally flew through the air.

She was not seriously injured but very stunned at the sudden occurrence!

When she explained to the policeman what had happened, he told her
something that every driver should know - NEVER DRIVE IN THE RAIN WITH
YOUR CRUISE CONTROL ON.

She had thought she was being cautious by setting the cruise control and
maintaining a safe consistent speed in the rain.

But the policeman told her that if the cruise control is on and your car
begins to hydroplane - when your tyres lose contact with the pavement,
your car will accelerate to a higher rate of speed and you take off like
an airplane. She told the policeman that was exactly what had occurred.

And don't you inhale just as bad pullutants in the car.. cause where do you think that air comes from? So would riding your bike next to a busy rode be extremely damaging to your health?

For years I had a car with those seat belts that go around you automatically when the car is started. I have always just used the shoulder part of the belt because I'm short and have to sit close to steering wheel, and I couldn't reach the lap belt. I got a new car recently and it is very hard for me to reach back for the seatbelt ( it has the regular type of belts), so I leave it buckled all the time and then just pull the shoulder belt over me when I get in. Its kind of a hassle but it beats over extending myself trying to put the seatbelt on. Plus, I dont have the lap belt to dig into my tummy and wrinkle my clothes. Does anyone else do this?? My friends think i'm wierd cause they have never seen anyone do this, but they arent as short as me either! When they hassle me about not having a lap belt, I remind them that they never wore it in my old car, so whats the difference. Just wondering if anyone else has had the same problem and solved it this way.

they have high center of gravity, making them very prone to rollovers. Second they aren't even more safe, as in this case

http://www.bridger.us/2002/12/16/CrashTestingMINICooperVsFordF150

Third they waste gasoline like mothers. Why not get a small economical car. If poeple think having a bigger car is better, they will KEEP GETTING BIGGER. Just stop here, stop wasting energy. If you need to tow something, that's different. But most of us just need to get to work then you only need a small car.
Another comparison-recently an off duty police officer in a Chevy Tahoe crashed into a mazda miata in a head on collision. The man in the miata only had a few bruses. The man in the Chevy died.

Explain on the basis of physics why it makes sense to put sandbags in your car trunk.

Specify what changes: the front wheels, the back wheels?

Should you do this with a vehicle that has all wheel drive or two wheel drive?

How do sandbags in the trunk affect stopping, starting, speeding up, and slowing down?

Thanks! :)

You want to make yourself deaf? Fine. But why is it that i'm at a light, and some punk pulls up beside me with his metal/rock/pop/rap music cranked as loud as possible until the trunk is rattling. Then I have to close my window because I can't hear my talk radio station. What's the point?

The idea will be used to save the lives of infants and children left in vehicles. I have already gone to an invention company from T.V. They want too much money and don't guarantee their work. The USPTO website is confusing and they recommend using a patent attorney which will cost about $10,000. This is not some dumb idea and will save lives. I looked on-line at some companies that might be interested in the idea but in order to submit it to them they want it to be patented already. I have already done the patent search and know my idea is not yet out there. I know there is someone out there that has the answer for me. Please don't send me an answer telling me about American Inventor. I would like any and all other ideas or resources.

Remember that wide open flat stretch of desert that that black Trans AM Kit in Knught Rider was driving top speed on? Thing is, I don't live in California, I live nearby Chicago. The main reason why people speed on the roads is because they don't have a place they can go do it at. And don't tell me that the only place I can do it at is some measly quarter mile drag strip. There's got to be a place where it's perfectly legal and I have all the space in the world to do it. Some speedway maybe? I plan on getting an 8-cylinder sports car and really maxing it out, and yes, I know it's illegal to do that on public roads, I know better. But like I said, there's GOT TO BE a place where I can speed to my heart's desire. Any places in or around the Illinois/Indiana area? And if not, where is that wide space like in that show "Knight Rider" or what they do in the TV series "MythBusters"?

Anything you can tell me, I'd appreciate it. Thanks.

If you walked during the "DONT WALK" at a crosswalk then are you walking at your own risk, or is it illegal to walk if the sign says "DONT WALK"? Is there any law broken if you walk during this time?

I passed my driving test just over a year ago and havn't drove once inbetween as i havnt been able to afford a car and couldnt get insured on anyone elses. and now i am on my boyfriends insurance and started driving again i feel quite nervous and feels like i have gone back to basics and make so so many mistakes, i keep thinking omg i have passed my test i should be able to drive- and its getting me down alot, my confidence has gone in driving but i am so desperate and used to love driving!
Wheni go out i do stupid things like driving up on the kerb and stalling lots and panicking!

Why is it that these same motorists fail to use their indicators which are located at each side of every motor vehicle world wide?
Perhaps they are just pretty little decorations to make each car look nice.
This is a very interesting question so lets have some very interesting answers.

Do any of the deer warning devices that are advertised actually work? I saw a report in which one was used to supposedly alert deer that a car was coming. In the demostration, the deer didn't even look up as the car drove right by it. If these collision avoidance don't work, is there any way to reduce your chances of running into deer and/or other animals?

If somebody is caught driving drunk, Take the car, give thim a ride home and KEEP the car. They won't do it again. How many 2,3,4,or more repeat DWI's have you seen. There are more people killed by drunk drivers in a month than have been killed in IRAQ in four years...No if's and's, or but's, Take the car and the police can sell it and use the money as needed, they do it with Drug confications, why not DWI's. If its Dad's car, Jr won't get the next one...If its a rental, you won't be able to rent another...You pay for another car, you learn a lesson, you get a ticket, a fine, you do it again.... Nuf said
