Why dont you stay in the right hand lanes unless you are going around another vehicle?

OMG! AMEN! That pisses me off. I don't think there is an answer except ignorance and being inconsiderate.
But, in my state (Illinois) - you can get a ticket for doing that. I've never heard of anyone getting one, but they say it's the law.

That's like asking...why don't people follow the rules of the road.
My answer....because just like all the other ******* on the road that do this...they think they own it. They're is always somone driving slower than them and THEY don't want to get behind them.

Because almost everyone is of the opinion that they are the only ones who matter, so they do what they want. In California they have a saying that sounds like it's not serious, but it is. They say "Hurray for me and f*** you." Drivers are notorious out there. The highways really are deadly.

no one thinks they are driving slow - at worst they think they are doing the speed limit and you are driving fast. Suggest you get a car built earlier than 1963 and just push these creepers off the road.

Because the police don't enforce this law. Back home in Sydney (Australia), the police did enforce it, as well as seatbelt laws, using turn signals, etc. And people followed all these laws.

yet another reason to drive something with a big *** bumper.... honestly officer how could I have hit him, caused that much damage and not even have a scratch on my car...

Move to Deutschland, they have cameras all over the highways, and will throw you in jail for lack of lane discipline! [also for honking your horn on Sundays, believe it or not]
