So i am going to buy a nice beginner sportbike next week. I have ridden dirbikes for a while, I'm extremely responsible, don't drive fast, took the motorcycle safety course, ect.
Everyone has got me convinced that I am going to die the minute I get on a sportbike and I am about to chicken out. Will somebody please convince me otherwise because I have always dreamed of riding a sportbike!

Are there any "crotch rockets" that are also reasonably comfortable to take out on a long trip?

How many motorcycle mechanics do we have that know of motorcycles with 6 speed transmissions? I test drove a Honda Sabre that was a 6 speed with rubber motor bushings. IT was an incredible ride. Is there any other bike besides the honda line VF models that offer this comfort without going to a harley or goldwing?

Take in consideration price does reflect my buying decision. The reason I ask this question is. The earlier models of the magna and sabre had cam oiler issues I read. and they are water cooled.

I would like to think I have other options in that catigory with an air cooled bike without those same issues.

yamaha xj600n
1998 R reg 35k miles
Problems inc:
backfiring right exhaust can
loss of power and 4th gear to overtake
throttal at fullest after 60mph
0-70 ok then flat
little groggy at starting, but second time with choke on and throttal is ok,
engine feels hotter than usual

it was bought second hand ( 5 owners) i have oil changed it 10/40 semi syn, sparkies, new chain etc.

Air filter is gonna be popped in next weekend but i guess this wont make all the issues go away. Carbs and valves?? who knows then they were done last, but i dont want to spend if i dont need to.

Any ideas why back firing right exhaust can and no power after 70mph. Power band has gone too. at 8k revs she use to take off, but not anymore.

no leaks or spills on floor after use, not smoking from exhaust either.

I did notice both exhausts at the can side have small needle holes under them and the right exhaust was blowing heavy from it, the left just from the can end

What company makes learners legal 125cc bikes in the style of a 1970's Honda CG 125? I think the name starts with a K, but that's as much as I know!

The bike doesn't have the power it should have and after riding it a while will barely turn over because its hot, not to mention tough on gas mileage.

I have a 1991 Kawaski Vulcan 500. My uncle gave it to me for my graduation. He replaced all of the valves. I rode it on a 100 mile trip last week, and it rode fine. Yesterday it started to make this weird noise, it sounds like air coming out. It sounds normal but with pulses of air. It also seems to have lost a little power. Can anyone tell me what is going on?

I have never bought a new car or motorcycle. But I want to buy a new Ninja 250. I went to American Auto Sports and saw one on the show room floor. The sales guy said it is $2999.00. I said great I will take it.

I know there is Tax, Tag, and Title fees. So I figured that the total price might be up to $3500. But no... he brought me back a quote of $4303. I said what is this? He said Tax, Tag, Title and Destination fee's. Tax is about $300 (expected) and Tag and title is about $200. I asked him why the hell is there so much more in that equation, and he said there is a shipping fee to get it to the store. Well I walked out. He tried to stop me and said he could negotiate to about $3800. I still said no.

My question. Is this a typical final price for a band new bike, whose MSRP is $2999.00? My goodness, with all the extra fat, that is about half of the price of the bike.

It used to be when two biker passed each other, each one would wave at the other. I ride a Harley and an R1. When i am riding my Harley, only Harley riders wave and thats only sometimes. Sportbikers don't. When I am riding my R1, only Sportbikers wave. Why is this? Can't we all just get along. We are all riders. I do live in Los Angeles so that might have some bearing on why people don't wave.

Its a 1999 Kawasaki 250, its got 7900 miles on it. Hasn't really been riden in 2 years but is started randomly and rode a bit to keep it going. Only cosmetic issue is a small dent near gas tank. Nothing mechanically wrong with it. I offered $1,300. What do you guys think?

1987 450cc Honda Rebel. 21k miles. Looks good to my uneducated eye; owner claims it runs great and has been well-maintained. The bike has two previous owners, the seller and his brother, so it's never been beat up by a kid. Asking $1800. So...anybody out there know bikes? Is this a good buy?

i was out riding today, and i wasnt on full throttle or nothing, and it made a wierd sounds and died on me. i was going about 30mph, and there was a litttle mud on it but i dont think it over heated :-/... when i try to start it with the e. stary, it sounds like the gear is jsut spinning. i dunno if its catching or not, but if it is, the engine had NO compression. i dont think the piston blew tho, seeing that it was ridden very seldomly... any hints or ideas guys?

I have had my 1989 Honda VTR 250 for several years and been through several batteries. When new, the battery seems to work alright for a while, but pretty soon it decides that it doesn't want to hold a charge anymore. It seems to me that something is wrong with the electrical system with the bike but when I've taken it in these half-assed mechanics just keep telling me to get a new battery or be sure to ride for long enough periods to recharge the battery every time (which I do, in fact I just did about a 2 hour, 150 mile ride and the battery was dead when I stopped to fill up). It seems like the bike is actually draining the battery even when running-- is this possible? Or else maybe the electrical system is just leaking power all the time? Any ideas?
