The bell is supposed to keep away road gremlins, and must be recieved from a close friend or family member. I own 2 harleys and I have bells on both of them.

Yes I do and It was given to me by best bro.One of the little store bought ones with a skull on it. I don't know for a fact if this is true but I reacently read an article in an underground mag that the original use was to prevent theft.By useing one that was a cowbell or like one that you knew the sound of and if it rang you knew it. I'm going to ask an older guy I know about that one.

I don't "put them on". It's supposed to be a gift, according to the story.
My step-daughter gave me one a few years ago. A gremlin must have stolen it.

My current bell is a set of the kid's dog tags, I don't need anything else.

I know I'll buy the farm one day, just not which day..........

I have one on my bike. I got it at our local Harley boutique. When I bought it i also got a coffee mug that makes the harley sound when you open the lid. Its so cool. I ring the bell to remind myself not to spend too much money on t-shirt and decorative home items at the Harley boutique.

I had a cowbell on my "Kaw"-asaki Voyager for about a week. Lost it crossing some RR tracks in British Columbia and a granny in a Taurus ran over it. The good luck worked...she didn't run over ME!

You might want to hang a rabbits foot, 4 leaf clover, garlic and carry your choice of holy book along with the bell...its all superstisious BS; keep your eyes open, the shiny side up and dont ride like a jerk...you'll be fine.

I have one hanging on a saddle bag. It was given to me by a good friend and that's the reason it stays there.
