I live in a private development, in a good area, with a private space, gated entry, clean car licence and am considering buying a motorbike.

Could someone just give me an average rate with a few examples of similar situations maybe with bikes ranging from 500-1200cc so that I get an idea of what I will be expected to pay. Thanks in advance.

Now before anybody jumps on the 'anti Ducati' bandwagon can we get something clear, i AM NOT going to be doing thousands of miles a year, i wont be comuting to work on a bike as i have a company car, this is going to be a bike to get me back into riding as i did when i was 17 - 20 (now 29), to use as MY toy/fun bike on weekends when the sun is shining and ive spent all week driving up and down the bloody M1 in a car! I love ducatis, i love the sound/style of Ducatis and always have, only thing is i now know i have to do the Direct access course and get a bike that will suit me, put a smile on my face and be great for the sunny weekends i look forward too. Was going to go for the 749 but since seeing the new style S2R monster in red/white stripe im now thinking my dip back into the biking scene may be slightly more comfortable/safe going the monster route first.....can always get a focused sport later maybe!!! Oh im 6 FT 3" by the way, dont think that matters but all theories welcome

It's in Brighton (England). It will probably have wiped out several motorcyclists by the time I get a answer, but would be good for future reference.

I was told that loud pipes save lives on a bike. I own a 2005 zx10r and can't afford a nice exhaust right now. It has a muzzy pipe on it now, (which is ok) but the one I really want cost about $1000.00. Can I not use a muffler at all and if so, will this take away from its performance?

I bought this 400cc CBR from a friend. He purchased the bike in Michigan with a title, but never changed it to his name. In his move to Florida he lost the title and does not know the last owners name. I contacted the state of Michigan and they say I don't have a good VIN. number, but this Jap. bike only has a 11 digits. When I went to the DMV here, the little fat lady said they can't do anything for me and called for the next person in line.
Somebody help me!

Rather than downshifting gears after I have stopped on a motorcycle, isn't it better to downshift as my speed decreases and use the engine to brake? Thus, by the time I have stopped, I am at 1st gear.

Looking through the Harley Davidson catalog of motorcycles I can't figure out what the specific differences are between the Dyna and the Sportster such that the Dyna costs about $6000 more. What do you get for this extra $6000? Also, is the Sportster really just "a Woman's bike"? Are men who ride them mocked by other Harley owners?

I work overseas and go home once in ayear for 45 days. I bought a new bike and I am enjoying. I am afraid if I park my bike in my garage for a whole year then I might get some mechanical problem in my bike when I drive in next year. I want to know what precusions I have to take for my bike.

I have taken a Harley instructional class and a two hour private lesson, yet I only still feel comfortable riding neighborhood streets. Have you others waited a bit (like a few weeks) to hit more "normal roads" with street light intersections, 45 mph+ speed limits, and such? I just purchased a Harley Dynaglide Street Bob; thus, the weight of the bike may be holding me back slightly. What do you think?
