Well a H-D motorcycle would be great however if this is not possible why not go to the local H-D dealer and get him a gift certificate? I like anything Harley and bought a bunch of DVD's from Ebay.com, Half.com and Amazon.com. I have to agree with these other people that a shirt is great. Can't have too many Harley T-Shirts. I also agree that pamphlets from a dealer would be great. If you ever want great DVD's on motorcycle safety there are a bunch from a guy called motorman. He's a motorcycle cop and instructor. His URL is www.ridelikeapro.com. Believe me they are great DVD's and save lives too. I have one more idea - call your local HOG chapter and ask if someone in the club would give him a birthday ride on the back of a Harley Davidson. I have a H-D trike and we're in a program where we give disabled kids and adults a ride.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY DAD !!!!!!!!

"100 Years of Harley Davidson"
It's a beautiful hard cover book with great pics and a wonderful story about the history of the company, the family and how the bike and the engine has evolved over the years.
I also like presentation to be an enjoyable part of receiving a gift. Wrap it in Orange tissue paper with little motorcycle stickers or cut outs on it. You can get some great stuff at any AC Moore or craft store. They even make HD scrap booking materials now.

A cool Harley D item you can usually find at Radio Shack is a Harley telephone! It looks like a Heritage Softail and the tank and seat lift off to be the receiver with the dial pad inside the motorcycle. They run around $50 last I checked. If he already has a Harley, then a gift certificate is always a good choice! Especially if he is due for service or an oil change soon!

Don't buy a harley book at the dealer, rip off, go to chapters or an other large bookstore and check out the gift book section, also the 100yr anniversary was in 2003 so you might be able to find something in the discount section. Many department stores carry Harley stuff, models, tshirts etc.

Look for a copy of Easy Rider on DVD someplace...most people of the older generations love this as it was the start of the whole scene. Also you could have enough money left over to buy him a couple of coffee table books about Harley Davidson

Harley really doesn't need any more money. For Gawd's sake, they make dog costumes for Halloween now! They have no pride. Back in the day.....oh well.
That said, I appreciate you wanting to get something special for your dad instead of the usual shaving lotion or blue tie. Why not go to Half.com and find a really good bike book for a competitive price? They have tons of great photo books on the history of bikes up to the present. That could give him some inspiration to go ahead and get a bike (and then you could ride together!)

My father loves Harley's too. Last year, I searched online, and found a web site that sells certificates of stock. You can buy him a stock of Harley Davidson. It comes framed with some cute logo.
I attached a web page that sells it, but I'm sure you can find it cheaper if you search around.

There are some books out there that are about the history of harleys, i think a book is a good idea, a lot of people just own one because they are "cool" but know about them and the history is awesome too. heres a list of books from amazon.com
