For me it's when people say a 600 sportbike is an ok bike to learn on. I hear that all the time and it makes me shudder.

I'm driving a BMW R1150R and it's time for my first tire change. Any good suggestion for what to get? I'm looking for something at least semi-durable (5-8,000 miles). I'm not a super aggressive driver. Thanks in advance!

I am beginning to get into motorcycles. I am taking a Motorcycle Training class to learn all the basics of riding and how to avoid hazardous and emergency situations. Basically, from what I have read so far, how to avoid dangerous situations is to allow yourself a safety margin of space. As long as you have enough space to react, then you can get out of any situation, but riders get too cocky, thinking that they won't wreck and end up wrecking.

Anyway, getting back on topic, I want a good book that teaches the necessary maintence on a bike. It can be as basic as, draining the oil and adding oil. Adding transmission fluid, the correct way to drain it. How to take the wheel off, in case the tire goes completely flat and you have to go and take it to get it fixed?
How to change the spark plug? I know a lot of this seems simple to you, but I don't work on automobiles. I can do some basic stuff on automobiles but not a lot, so I need a book this basic.

My brother & I bought 2 new bikes for a summer vacation. His new 1200 Bandit leaked gas and filled the motor with gas and ruin it. We asked Suzuki of America to replace the motor so could go on vacation. They said that's to expensive, it costs $3000. They messed around all summer and 4 months later had the rebuilt at a cost of $3700. The bandit ran like crap and looked worse. The gas stained cases and burnt exhaust pipes were not replaced, and the bike got scratched and nicked all over from being apart for so long. We even called Japan but got no help. No one in Suzuki gave a damn. We sold the bikes because summer was gone and thier warranty was worth less. We loss $5000 and got no vacation just a huge hassle with suzuki. We even wrote to the CEO and did not even get a letter back from him. Every one be warned Suzuki's warranty is not worth the paper it's printed on!!! If you get a lemon your Fd! And they don't give a F!!!!!

The spec says “5.4 U.S. gallons; including 1 gallon reserve” but I’ve been told by the shop that far from all of the 5.4 gallons are available on a US model. The reason should be environmental changes made to the US models. Do you know how much is available and how much of it is the reserve. Thanks in advance!!

Less traffic, less fuel consumption, everyone would be motorcycle aware and a lot of people out there could use a little toughening up.

This whole idea of having a roof over your head when you travel is fairly new.

The bike is spec'd with a 140/70-18 in the rear and it seems I am only able to locate tires in the 160/60 size. Will these work on my bike? Also, what would be the difference in riding with a bias-ply tire instead of a radial tire?

I have a 1977 yamaha xs400 and i'm thinking it needs the carbs rebuilt or cleaned cause it won't idle at all, it will start right up but then you have to mind the throttle and keep it over 3000rpm to just keep it running, any help on the subject would be awesome.

My husband and I go to motorcycle ralleys and we're tired of the same old stuff. I love to craft and create! I would like to hear what other people are looking for when they go to the ralleys. Any ideas will be greatly appreciated. I am also looking for items for children.

A motorcycle helmet significantly improves the chance that the rider will survive an accident with a serious body injury that could leave him requiring assistance the rest of his life, thereby taxing health care.

Without a helmet on, there is a much greater chance that a crash that causes serious bodily harm will be fatal. A corpse doesn't cost the health care system much.

Isn't the argument for helmet laws really the best argument against them?
