I need help with a new bought motorcycle. I have a 1987 GSXR 750 and am trying to find new tires.?

The bike is spec'd with a 140/70-18 in the rear and it seems I am only able to locate tires in the 160/60 size. Will these work on my bike? Also, what would be the difference in riding with a bias-ply tire instead of a radial tire?

Well if I can get a 140/90 15 for my 85 Intruder, then I'm sure you can find your tire too. The bike shop had to order it out of Quebec from their book, but they weren't too expensive. Dunlops.

All motorcycles should be equipped with the tire size specified by the motorcycle manufacturer as found in the owner’s manual or manufacturer’s website. Be sure to equip the bike with radial tires only when they are required by the bike manufacturer.

-Never mix Radial construction tires with bias or bias-belted construction tires.
-Some motorcycles may be equipped with Radial tires. Consult the motorcycle manufacturer before equipping replacement Radial tires to insure the proper specification and combination for your motorcycle.

I agree with the oddly named "goaheadeatme" above ... Dunlops are good. They trick to getting tires is to get the same brand/style front and rear. Bias tends to give me better handling, I think, but radials are more durable for every-day riding. Bias are a little cheaper, but I go through a set a year, or so, regardless of the cord configuration, so it doesn't really matter.
Go to your local shop and ask them to order you some tires. They should be able to get them, no problem, and they can mount and balance them for you, too. Professional mounting can be a lifesaver.
